Feature Requests / Re: Disable Vertex Color

How is it with speed increases in 1.1 compared to the older versions of photoscan? I asked this question in the Pre release 1.1 thread, but while your here I might as well ask you :)

5-6 seconds thats quick and I could live with that, wonder why it takes longer on my machine..I doing arbitrary only.

Is there any speed gains in 1.1 compared to the older version? I mean faster processing mesh and generating point clouds and so on?

Hmm..no I cant rely say a percentage number of time spent. But the coming weeks I have about two hundred scans to complete. Some are quick some are very heavy in point number. Of course the vertex calculation phase is the least time consuming, but since I wont be needing it for my generated mesh since I'm doing a texture anyway it is a couple of minutes to be saved for each scan. I havent really timed the vertex color calculation phase for the mesh generating, but for some extreme meshes it can be 150-200 million faces that is going to be vertex colored (probably take like 3-5 minutes or longer?), then after thats done I will decimate the mesh to 20 million so the vertex colors becomes kind of pointless after that step anyway and then generate texture.

Is it possible to disable vertex color during generating mesh? If it's just for show and not doing any functions during the build texture process I would say it's a unnecessary step to wait for and would save me some minutes for each scan:)

General / Textures from point cloud
« on: October 16, 2014, 07:26:21 PM »
Is it possible or does anyone know a way of using the point cloud data for generating textures and so on. With the dense point cloud exported, would it be possible to use that for baking, albedo/diffuse, normal maps and so on to a low poly mesh?

I know 3dsmax 2015 can import point cloud data but it looks like its in a format that I cant get out from Agisoft.

I have some flat (very dense)  ground surfaces generated with Agisoft but it takes like 20 hours to generate a mesh and 8 hours to decimate it and still it doesnt look as detailed and nice as the dense cloud does, so I would like to skip the mesh generation step, if possible, since my main purpose is just to extract textures from the scan in the end.

No thats the thing, they are not run on the same computer. This was just a quick test since one of my co workers got the card yesterday. His processor is smaller than mine.

The spec for the computer is:

Xeon x5650 2.67 Ghz, 24gb Ram, GTX 980

My computer:

Xeon w3690 3.47Ghz, 24gb Ram, GTX 670

Unfortunatly we are in full production so cant hijack his computer as much as I would like to:)

Ok so know I enabled Save depth maps and this are the times I got. Strange it's being slower, could it be that the computer with the 980 card have a not as good processor?

Pic1. GTX 670

Pic2. GTX 980

Aha ok had no idea, so if I keep depth maps will that be showing in the show info dialog?

hmm dont know if I did something completely wrong here or if I used some weird setting in Agisoft..but the GTX 980 was actually slower at least when looking at the Show info for my chunk.

Pic 1 is on my machine GTX 670, 24gb ram and a xeon 3,47Ghz

Pic2 is the machine with the GTX 980, 24gb ram and a xeon 2.6 Ghz (cant remember exactly) In the open cl settings I had 2 cpu cores deactivated

Pic3 is the machine with the GTX 980, 24gb ram and a xeon 2.6 Ghz (cant remember exactly) In the open cl settings I had all except one cpu cores deactivated

This is just a scan with 18 pictures, maybe it will be much different on a larger scan.

I will try and borrow my colleges computer again install 1.1 on it. Is it possible to run the 1.1 in evaluation/demo mode?

Ok did a test and the GPU didnt work, guess it's the Nvidia driver problem.

Actually, I just found out that one guy here at work today installed 980 card, will try that with agisoft asap. What is it that I should look for to really know that agisoft supports it? Is it that the gpu kicks in when calculating dense clouds?

Any news on the GTX 980 card :) Here at work we are planing to buy new graphic cards but they had planed for GTX 780, so Im really interested to know if I should try convincing them to buy the 980 card or if it really is worth the money going for the 980 instead of 780.

Can you please tell me where I find the crash report?
