General / Re: Areal Photogrammetry with Sony Nex7

yes, I know it and I have used it. geometry of gimbal, connector at side of camera together is bullshit and does not work, if you want to make fotos from the uav.
IR can be a solution, but for my purpose the camera with the app making fotos every 2 seconds is a nice and cheap option.

Martin

Sony direct triggering via multiport does work. It works via servo type relay trigger or MK's transistor output and is no "bullshit" as I and several of our customers are using it. From the UAV's...  ;)

But you are correct, the timelapse app is a cheap solution.

NEX 6 has a multiport connector ( like A5000, ... ) which can be used to trigger the camera via MK's transistor output or a servo pulse if combined with right trigger device.  ;)

Hello,

you should be able to set number of cores used by PhotoScan under program Preferences - check PhotoScan manual.

Yes, I have checked recent job and have made little less than 800 shots without any battery issues. Never tested max shots as with multirotor I am limited with it's autonomy  :)

As JMR wrote, when you use video out cable, the LCD of the camera turns off and as it is the main power consumer ( flash is excluded ), you get quite decent working time.

I don't know about E-PL7, but E-PL5 works with battery doors open. As for the power source I don't know as I didn't test it jet. It's just an article I found. I use E-PL5 on my multirotors and have no need for the extended power, but if I need it, I will test it.

For the timelapse a StratoSnapper 2 is also a nice solution and a bit cheaper too.  ;)

Agree on Olympus, but like to add, that E-PL5 is also excelent and cheaper option. You can use newer 25 mm f1.8 lens.

And there is no need for wire trigger hacks as a trigger cable with video out exists.  :)

As for the external power supply you can search for DC couplers, but was not able to find one for Oly except DIY page : http://weirdologic.blogspot.com/2014/01/dc-power-to-olympus-pen-camera-diy.html

I guess a Nikon Coolpix A II could be interesting if it will be any faster than current version.

Hello,

Sorry, I misread the question.  ;)

I don't know if it is possible to achieve it with NEX 7 as I don't have one, but if it would be, that would be the solution.

I don't use IR triggering as it is slow and unreliable, but with NEX7 you don't have a lot of options. You can hack the shutter button or use a servo, but both are workarrounds.

With Sony A5000, A5100, A6000 you can use direct wire trigger and 1s triggering is no issue.

Best regards,

Alex

Hello,

for NEX7 1s trigger via IR you could use a simple IR trigger and a trigger pulse from the flight controller or a standalone solution like StratoSnapper IR trigger set to automatic timelapse or via switch with continous triggering and 1s delay option.

Alex

If that doesn't help I would suggest you do a fresh reinstall of the system, drivers, software.... based on your previous issues...

The latest version of the GPU gadget you were using was infected with a bug...  ;)

I did check it out and it works for me.

GPU usage actualy moves from 1% to max, but the utility has a 1 second refresh, so it is not to accurate. Try to do the Dense Cloud with OpenCL enabled and disabled. You will see the difference.  :)

Best regards,

Alex

Can you share the widget name?

I suggest you do a Bulild Dense Cloud on a dataset of 100+ photos with OpenCL enabled and another with disabled and compare the time. That is, if you can enable it now.  ;)

If you would like to test the GPU, try the GPU Shark utility. Don't know if it exact, but it shows extended usage of the GPU and temperature rising.  8)

Alex

Hello Patribus,

I missed the tool with one you are checking GPU usage. Can you please share the method?

Best regards,

Alex

It's nothing.  ;)

I did notice however, that the issue is allready discussed in Bug Reports area so I suggest it is continued there to avoid cross-posting.

Best regards,

Alex
