General / Re: Use of components (processor, RAM, GPU)

Unfortunately, amd-Ati GPU is not supported by server vendors. It is like this for HP , IBM and they say amd-ati 3rd party gpu and it makes the server out of guarantee. However they fully support nvidia. quadro 6000 , quadro 4000 , and some model server supports even other high-end gpus like Tesla K40 Tesla K20X Tesla K20 Tesla K10..
Anyways, thx for your advice. I will go for NVIDIA Quadro 6000 6GB   ;D

2 x Xeon 8C E5-2640v2  CPU
8 x 16GB 14900R DIMM 1866MHZ RAM
4 x 300GB SAS 10K RPM HDD (Raid 1+0)
2 x 750WATT Power Supply ......etc

Video Matrox G200eR2 with 16 MB memory integrated into the IMM2. Maximum resolution is 1600x1200 at 75 Hz with 16 M colors.

So, please tell me about Video Card,  would it cause a big problem ?

Hi,

We are working with a 48camera setup

Hi Andreas,
Thx for your help.  I want to ask, how long does your post processing(alignment, creating mesh..etc) take for 48 photos?

And after this post-processing, do you make edit?  how long does your zbrush take?
I am just trying to understand the process for 48 camera setup.

Thx

Hi mate,

In your case, if you can budged for a server, it would be the best choice.
I am not sure about dell but currently I can talk for HP as independent HP Server&Storage Pre-sales Engineer;

There is a new CPU family is being used and you will be able to use Ivy Bridge 3rd Gen Intel Core Processor (Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v2 processors). And that brings lots of new things like increased performance of up to 35% as well as makes you to have significant benefit from using PC3-14600R R-DIMM RAM kits instead of PC3-10600 or PC3-12800. I want to mention, You can use up to 768GB memory(currently only LRDIMM, cos unfortunately only it has 32GB quad rank modules. that makes 32GBx24 DIMM=768GB). Certanly, you may want to stick on PC3-14600R as I do. So in this case nowadays you can reach maximum 512GB RAM. That is 16GB x 24DIMM.  (As I will say soon, those server comes with two socket. if you have only one CPU, you can use 12 DIMM activated. If you wanna install more than 12 ram kits you need to get the second CPU (And redundant power supply as well :) ))

by the way: PC3-14600 1866Mhz  /  PC3-12800 1600Mhz  /  PC3-10600  1333Mhz

Yes, those servers come with 2 socket. Expensive but you may want to use, CPU Like E5-2695V2 or E5-2697V2. Each of them has 12 Cores. That means you can have  total: 2 CPU  ,24 Cores, 48 thread of execution... It will be a killer..

I may want to mention you about RAID advantages to improve the performance, but it's getting deep technical  :o

At the end, my recommedation is Server instead of WS.  (HP DL380P Starting from $ 1,799 in US)

Hi guys,
I've been fallowing this forum for a long time and I managed to register finally.
There was a problem with confirmation e-mail with "yahoo" mail. Had to get another e-mail address sth like gmail or from other email service provider. For admin's information. :)

So,I have read lot's of informations about your experiences. I do appreciate to you all about those wonderful topics. Thank you guys.

I would like to ask for your advice;
I can say, Canon 600D is one of the best camera to have it in the ring, as it provides sharp photos.
What do you think about Canon EOS 600D + 18-55mm Lens ?   Is it good for a begining?

I was planing to get 10-15 Canon 600D cameras.
How many cameras would you recommend for 360?

What is the best for snapping? DSLR Remote Pro Multi-Camera Breeze systems looks good for Canon 600D.

Thanks in advance,
