General / Re: Using Oblique Satellite Imagery
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:28:42 PM »
I think the reason the oblique imagery is failing is that it isn't captured with a conventional camera system with a frame sensor.

Oblique imagery in those 3-camera systems is typically acquired with a linear ccd sensor in long strips several kilometers long. The image data is then post processed using IMU and GPS data and then cropped to make an attractive, measurable image.

Depending on who acquired the photos, it could be that what you're loading is actually several thousand individual images (all 1pixel tall) merged into one photo.

I'd like to see a better XYZ export out of the program. I'd like to be able to do ground truthing and query a coordinate and have the program output the Z elevation.

If I give the program a CSV of XY values, the program should supply me with a Z for all values.. that way I can do a comparison quickly and assess accuracy.

What ISO are you shooting at.. looks pretty noisy to me. Little plastic models don't have a lot of texture.. that type of smooth painted material with gloss are just bad for reconstruction. All the texture I see in Minnie's face is ISO noise.

I would:

1. Get more light
2. Reduce aperture
3. Zoom in more
4. Reduce ISO

I think you could use more photos too.. some of the rotations seem like pretty big changes.

I agree, I think this is one area that the software could be drastically improved.

Ideally the user could set the desired coordinate system, import a CSV of coordinates and drag and drop the "markers" for each point into the model and place it accurately. Currently it is a first rate pain to place a dozen markers and make sure that the point in the photo is the same as what I've added to the XML.

One tip for placing the point more accurately and being able to zoom in better, turn the model on its side and use the CTRL, SHIFT and ALT buttons to zoom and pan into near where your target it. By approaching it from the side, you can place the camera directly over the target and then rotate the screen to look more closely at the target. In this way you can get an extreme close up of the target.

General / Multiple cameras
« on: February 09, 2011, 07:15:13 PM »
I noticed in the Professional Edition User Manual that it says:

Chapter 2: Capturing Photos
Make sure that the scene doesn't change during capturing. Use multiple synchronized cameras for dynamic scene reconstruction.

Is it possible to capture images using two separate cameras with different lenses to acquire different perspectives on the scene? How does the software distinguish between two 5DMK2 cameras each with its own 35mm lens?

>>The problem will be fixed in the next release, but we need 1-2 weeks to finish it as it will be a major update.

How are updates to the software handled to users who own the software? If I buy a license now and the software is updated in two weeks, 6 months, a year.. what does it cost me to get the most up to date version? Can you tell us what other features are coming to the next major update?

General / Sample export ortho photos?
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:16:57 PM »
Is there a way that I can export out sample orthos photos to see what the quality of the images look like? Perhaps add a lots of watermarks to the images, or apply a blackhole overlay to the images.. something that will make the photos unusable, but will allow me to see the quality of the results? I'd like to buy a professional license, but I'm not going to do it unless I can see what the ortho results will actually look like.

Also, I'd like to see a sample KML export also and know what the georefencing process is like.

Basically, I'd like to get either a demo license of a fully functional program or a have you restrict the usefulness of the output files from the trial version.

Please let me know, I am very eager to proceed with more in depth testing.
Thanks.

General / Reconstruction level
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:11:36 AM »
In CVMS/PVMS and bundler, its possible to set set a reconstruction level (0 - 5 I think) that effects the processing time and the level of reconstruction. Is it possible to set these variables in your program? I love the software, very user friendly.. but the clouds be constructed don't seem very dense. I've run the same image sets through CMVS and get much denser reconstructions. Any ideas on why there are difference?
Thanks.
