General / Darker areas of photos not getting enough points
« on: May 19, 2014, 10:14:36 PM »
I've noticed that shaded areas of my photos don't usually get enough points for a proper meshing.  These areas are not especially dark and have plenty of detail in them that I would expect Photoscan could grab on to.  For example if I shoot a series of 20 photos of a vase outside on a cloudy day, but one side has a little less illumination since it faces away from the area of sky where the sun is behind the clouds.  That side gets hardly any points at all and often results in large gaps in the mesh.  This is after boosting shadows quite a bit in Lightroom as a pre-process.

Maybe using masking would help with this kind of problem?

General / 8 bit vs 16 bit Images - Mesh Quality?
« on: May 18, 2014, 08:44:40 PM »
Has anyone done any extensive testing of the resulting quality difference using 16 bit source images vs 8 bit?  I'm talking only about the model and not texture quality here.

General / Free-Form Selection + Dense Point Cloud = SLOW
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:32:23 AM »
Has anyone else found that using the Freeform lasso select on the dense cloud to be extremely laggy?  With the sparse cloud or mesh the interactivity is really responsive, but with the dense cloud it chugs as I draw.  This happens on both my work (dual Xeon) and home (i7 920) computers, both of which have a GTX680 card.  This slowdown makes selecting and deleting points painfully slow.

Thanks,
m

Feature Requests / Viewport Rotate Keyboard+Mouse Shortcut
« on: May 04, 2014, 03:24:08 AM »
I am aware that hitting space toggles between the rotate view and last selection tool, but this is a bit clunky compared to the way most other 3d apps work.  Can we please get something similar to how Max and Maya work, meaning a combination of keys that you press while clicking a mouse button to enable view orbiting.  This way the user can fluidly rotate around their scene while selecting stuff without having to constantly switch modes.

My vote is to just use ALT+LMB or ALT+MMB.

General / OpenCL Cores Enabled vs CPU Disabled?
« on: May 04, 2014, 02:52:19 AM »
I am a bit confused about the correct settings for disabling CPU cores when OpenCL devices are in use.  In your help file you state that one CPU core should be disabled for each OpenCL DEVICE, but other users I have talked to suggest disabling one CPU for each gpu CORE.  Of course, many cards like the GTX680 have 8 or more core per card.  I just want to make sure we are setting things correctly.

Thanks,
Mitch
