Thank you very much  ;D

The laser scans are calculated with Trimble Realworks, the photos in Metashape. I then read the coordinate files into Autocad via Recap. Floor plans and sections are created there.

I can't say anything about your other problems, except that I've had a number of problems with laser scans within Metashape since version 2.0.

You can calculate the quality of the images in Metashape, from 80 is a good value that I prefer to work with, your images are 50% below this value.

In order to achieve high-resolution ortho images or a highly accurate point cloud, you have to work on your recording technique with your drone. That just by the way.

I calculated the images, you can see my settings in the attached image. I'm working with the 2.02 beta, because there were problems with scan files in earlier versions, but that shouldn't affect this calculation here.

The result is good in terms of quality, despite the bad pictures. I can't judge why you have such bad results, just try a recalculation with my settings.

These settings are my default for any kind of alignment in Metashape.

The calculation takes a little longer, but the results are better, especially in poor recording situations with few identical points on the photos.

We often have this case, there are 2 possibilities:

1) Calculate the photos with local coordinates, then the scan coordinates match the photogrammetric coordinates. This must be agreed with the client.

2) When scanning, set the factor of the transformation directly in the scanner, with our scanner it works. Then the scan is scaled by this factor from the start and fits together with the photos. Unfortunately, this option is not available in Realworks.

exactly my thoughts.....

Alignment between laser scans and photos is difficult to achieve. The distance and angle to the object must be almost identical, then it works well.
In addition, since version 2.0 there have been problems with the alignment of photos and scans in Metashape, so we are trying to prevent this.

For years we have been generating building measurements according to the following workflow:

1) Glue control points in the windows, which are visible from inside and outside.

2) Fly over the facade with a PPK drone and, if necessary, align it with photos taken by hand in Metashape.

3) Scan the interior and link it to the exterior facade using the coordinates of the control points in the windows.

Point 3 is not carried out in Metashape, but in a special scan program. The point clouds from the two programs can then be merged and processed further.

Hope that helps,

I'm downloading it, it's taking time...

What I can already say: 1/30 shutter speed is not enough for interval recording. Half of the images are blurred. I fly without an interval and have a shutter speed of at least 1/100, preferably 1/200 if possible. I set ISO to AUTO.

I (and Metashape too) prefer noisy images to shaky ones.

In my experience, the scan point of view has to be roughly identical to the drone point of view for identical points to be found at all, with colored point clouds working better than grayscale scans. In your example, that's not the case at all. Metashape does not compare the point clouds, but the panorama image, and that should be almost identical to the drone images.

It is irrelevant which model the drone is.

This result cannot be if the recordings have enough overlap.

I also work with the Mavic and I have never had such bad results.

Offer the pictures for download, then I can help you.

Is there a solution to the problem?

If i mask out areas in a laserscan, it will not aply changes to the mesh i build. I work bis 2.02 beta.

General / Referencing laserscans
« on: May 09, 2023, 11:00:37 AM »
What am I doing wrong?

I have a registration with GCP and aligned photos.
In addition, I read in a laser scan, set the scan's transformation to off, and align this scan over the photos.

Metashape finds identical points and aligns the scan to the photos, so far so good.

After this step I have 20 cm deviation in all GCP, my registration is no longer correct. I didn't tap a GCP in the scan, how can that be?

Thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately we work with cloud to cloud alignement of the scans. We have to find a solution to read the coordinates of the scanners from the third-party program.

Exact the same problems here:
