-export both point cloud from metashape
-import both pointclouds in the freeware cloudcompare
-align the scan point cloud to the image point cloud
-export laser point cloud from cloudcompare
-import back to metashape

General / Re: Importing pointclouds with normals

The problem is not in metashape.
I tested this with Trimble Realworks and with Faro Scene. The normals are not exported in either of the two software packages. I also asked the two manufacturers: We are working on it - so far for 2 years :(

There is no solution to this problem. All CAD programs I know cannot do anything with the 3D data from Metashape.

The only possibility offers e.g. the point cloud data in Autocad. With Autocad on-board tools, the point cloud can be compared with a 3D model without major problems.

Bug Reports / Re: Photoassignment Orthophoto is bad
« on: October 11, 2020, 12:39:18 PM »

Apparently I'm one of the few who create textured 3D models here. Otherwise the willingness to help would certainly be greater. I've been working with agisoft every day for about 5 years now, so I know what I'm talking about, you can assume that.

In my case (Am I really the only one?) The output quality of the data gets worse and worse from version to version. I have attached a picture of a wall, which I would like to submit as a TLS file in the viewer.

What can I say, it just doesn't work. We have been working with the same camera for 3 years, we haven't changed our recording technology, the hardware is the same. It is not possible for me to deliver the wall in anywhere near good quality. The area is covered with systematic graphics errors (see attached graphic). I am happy to put my project online, but agisoft must be willing to help. I would like to help to correct the grievances.

With these restrictions this software can no longer be used by us. The same applies to taking orthophotos (see the thread above).

I urgently ask for support from agisoft.

Bug Reports / Photoassignment Orthophoto is bad
« on: August 28, 2020, 11:03:30 AM »
Because I don't get an answer in the general forum, I'll post my request here again:

I would ask you to check the image assignment for the orthophotos again.

The optimal photo of the surface is not assigned, as can easily be seen from the attached example. Example 1 is the automatic Ortophoto, example 2 the post-processed version.

In this example, all photos had to be exchanged to get an acceptable surface.

I have often pointed out this problem without any change on the part of agisoft. I like to work with Agisoft a lot, but I have to exchange hundreds of photos for every project, which in the long run becomes too much for me and is unproductive for our office.

I am happy to help and offer my support.

Dieter

I may have found the solution.

The previous examples are cylindrical developments.

It looks like in this case the software determines the ranks of the images in exactly the opposite way.

I noticed this when I exchanged the pictures, Rank 1 means good for normal orthophotos, for my cylindrical developments it means bad.

That means the worst pictures are used for the orthophoto, very bad.

Dear Agisoft team, please check this !!

It is the Project without Photos.. But i dont know about the accuracy.

Do you have GCP's?

I saw the photos, what can I say, they are not that good ......

I also have the Mavic 2 Pro.

You have to try to keep the exposure time fixed with a maximum of 1/250, better is 1/500 or even 1/1000.
You can set the aperture on the Mavic to 2.8 and leave it that way. I fly with ISO Auto, the less light, the higher the ISO number. I set the focus to fixed, I made a table with different distances. You have to try a little bit, then you will get better photos and better results. Now I'll have a look at the overlaps and whether I can somehow calculate the project ......

But that can take until Monday, I'll be on my way tomorrow.

Can you upload the Photos on a cloud server, then i can look about it.

Do you have unchecked the GPS coordinates in the Referenz-pane?

And then try  with Key-Poin limit 100000 and tie-Point limit 40000.

Feature Requests / detailed orthofotos
« on: May 20, 2020, 09:34:50 AM »
Hi,

We very often process large orthophotos and are not always satisfied with the assignment of the images.

Please note the attached document, which shows a typical situation that often occurs.

Green is the object to be measured, blue is the individual photos taken, red is the direction of the orthophoto.

Metashape uses the images of "2" in the side areas because they are parallel to the direction of the orthophoto.

The photos from "1" would deliver much better results because they are closer to the object, have a vertical direction of exposure to the object and are therefore sharper than the photos from "2".

As a result, our office has a considerable additional effort to create "better" orthophotos from the orthophotos from Metashape. Hundreds of image areas are changed for better single shots.

As a solution, I could set priorities that the user could freely define. My priority list would then be:

1) Angle to the object (vertical recording direction if possible)

2) Distance to the object (photos as detailed as possible)

3) Fill the remaining areas with other photos that do not meet 1 and 2 to fill the areas.

Are there ways to do this or are there other solutions for "better" orthophotos?

Thanks
Dieter

I don't understand the logic behind data overwriting issues.

If I have two 3D models and want to create a new 3D model in one, then a question comes up whether I should replace the existing one. If, on the other hand, I only have one 3D model and calculate a new model, there is no query at all !?

I have overwritten a lot of data with it in the last versions because I forgot to turn ortho photos active off, today I overwritten a complete 3D model with a computing time of several hours.

I ask once again, politely and urgently, to always provide an overwrite of any data with a query as to whether I really want it.
