General / Re: Very poor and bad documentation
« on: December 06, 2022, 10:22:23 PM »
I'm not sure what you mean by never getting to the end of a project... I (and many others) have processed hundreds of projects without problems. Maybe the problem lies rather with your setup?

And are you aware of Agisofts Helpdesk Portal? There are tons of information, tutorials etc. there: https://agisoft.freshdesk.com/support/solutions
Of course better documentation is always desirable but I do find that between the user manual, helpdesk, social media groups and forum there is quite a lot of information out there.

General / Re: Swapping Images After Alignment
« on: August 17, 2022, 10:33:56 AM »
I can confirm that swapping images works fine, I've done this plenty of times.
Just make sure that the image size is identical, some image processing software applies distortion corrections which can crop the image slightly by a few pixels.

There is a PM system here, send me the WeTransfer link and I'll take a look.
Cheers.

the sparse cloud is I presume the somewhat non dense dotty mess after align photos
That is an indication that your image capture method is flawed. Usually the sparse cloud should look like a clean, low resolution point cloud of the object.

12 out of 22 failed the other day, ran them in photoscan and they all were aligned.
22 images seems very little. Try capturing the object with the double or even triple the amount of images.
There have been quite some optimizations done to the alignment algorithm, greatly increasing the processing speed. If you capture your object correctly, you should not have those problems.

Mask from model requires a accurate image alignment.

Have you even tried importing masks from Photoshop? Just create a alpha channel with the mask, save as tiff and use "import mask from alpha".

Masks exclude areas from processing. This includes alignment, dense cloud/ depth map based mesh and texturing. Everything masked will not be used whatsoever.

It seems you might want to optimize your data acquisition methods. I've been using Metashape for a long time and can't even remember the last time I had alignment issues.

I thought this topic is related to what is being reconstructed and not alignment errors? If you can't get the images to align, the mask from model workflow will not help.

Are you aware of Agisofts freshdesk? It has plenty of tutorials, though those are not videos but written ones (which I personally actually prefer because its easier to follow and one does not always have to rewind the video if one missed something).

There even are 6 different tutorials there on masking images.

Deleting points from the sparse cloud does not affect which areas will be reconstructed. The sparse cloud represents image feature points that were used for computing the camera pose. Removing those points is only helpful for optimizing the camera alignment.

In your case you could either adjust the reconstruction region (bounding box) to exclude certain areas from reconstruction. Alternatively, you could delete unwanted points from the sparse cloud, mesh it and use the "import masks from model" to mask the images. Masked areas will not be reconstructed.
Cheers.

I just released a similar image set under CC-BY-NC 4.0 for testing and comparing to other software. I have some high-res 3D-scans of that model, so it's great for comparison.

Why shouldn't we be able to mention other software?
While I am definitely on your side here, it just seems like the wrong place to discuss competing software packages on the forum of one of the competing solutions. I would much rather prefer such discussion to take place on more neutral grounds, similiar to what is being done on laserscanningforum.com.

One thing I really appreciate about Agisoft is the way they interact with their users, particularly on this forum. They are very receptive to feedback and constructive criticism, which ultimately makes their product better.
I completely agree with you. That's why I also "dared" to add the processing time of a competitor to give some feedback on the improvements but also to show that there is still room for further optimizations.

Mak,
this build has a free Pcie slot that's just waiting for the 3080ti to be released :D

Let's just say there aren't many other programs out there that are quite a bit faster than Metashape... I don't think we should elaborate on other software here.

Hi Mak,
i've made the same observation regarding the additional geometry on the inside.
The image set is made up of 258 61mpx images shot with a 90mm lens on full-frame.
System is a Threadripper 3960X, 256GB 3000mhz DDR4, 1x 1080ti, 2x Samsung Evo Plus NVMe 1TB Raid0, Win 10 Pro.
Anything else?
Cheers!

General / 1.7.0. Results of reworked depth maps generation algorithm
« on: January 07, 2021, 11:42:26 PM »
Hi Agisoft team,
congratulations on the 1.7.0 release. I've been doing some comparisions between 1.6.5 and 1.7.0 and I thought I would share the results.

Agisoft 1.6.5: 12h 8m (Depth maps 9h 57m, Meshing 2h 11m)
Agisoft 1.7.0: 7h 14m (Depth maps 5h 9m, Meshing 2h 5m)
Competitor: 5h 11m (Depth maps 3h 5m, Meshing 2h 6m)

In general the improvements are quite impressive: Significantly shorter processing times with more detailed results. In addition, the stepping effect visible in some of the 1.6.5 images vanished.
But some areas of the 1.7.0 model show artefacts that were not present in 1.6.5 (last image). Any fixes in sight?

Also I am very impressed on how much Metashape has caught up to their main competitor. Keep it going! <3
Cheers!

General / Re: How to get the most detail in Texture?
« on: January 05, 2021, 03:43:30 PM »
Hi,
if you increase your texture size, there will be more details visible. I quite often use 8192 or even 16384 px as texture size.
Cheers
