Bug Reports / agisoft.com - Private messages broken (?)
« on: September 15, 2020, 12:42:11 PM »
Hi all,
in the "My Messages" section, the contents of received messages are overlapping each other, making it impossible to read. Tried on chrome and firefox, both exhibit the same behaviour.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Cheers.

Have you tried using a projected coordinate system (such as UTM)?
Which format are you using to import the DEM? Does it show up in the correct position?

Hi cwm,
did you check the bounding box (region)? Try resetting it.
Cheers.

Ah, it took a while but I finally understand your predicament. Excuse my naive input!
Since the value is used to preselect images, have you tested the ones stated in your example above (or similar ones with a large variability) and checked the matching results? The amount of matches should be a good indication for the type of input expected, or?

Hi andyroo,
just as a quick thought: Entering the altitude above sea level would not be useful for the actual purpose this value serves. Quote from above "... to make the preselection procedure work efficiently."
For estimating which overlapping images could possibly match, it would make a lot more sense to have the actual distance from image to surface (as well focal length etc.).
Does that make sense? It definitely has been a wild year...
Cheers!

Hi Alexey,
what's the difference between the export with Python scripting and the EXR images in the .files folder?
Is the approach with python scripting based on the existing mesh, whereas the images in .files folder are the actual basis for generating the mesh?

General / Re: Camera Alignment Settings
« on: September 10, 2020, 05:16:01 PM »
It depends a bit on the type of project, usually the default settings are a pretty good starting point. Sometimes I increase the key points to 80.000 and tie points to 6000, afterwards using the gradual selection filter. And depending on the overlap, I also use "Adaptive camera model fitting".
Let us know, how it works out for you.
Cheers!

Hi Anton,
one thing that might help: Using generic preselection the image is downsampled to find potential matches before actually matching the images in full resolution. Since the apples surface is fairly homogeneous and even the available features are fairly similiar to each other, you might want to try unchecking generic preselection. Depending on your image count, it might take a lot longer but I had a couple of projects where this approach yielded way better results.
Good luck!

andyroo made some great suggestions and Pudget Systems is really good resource for deciding on hardware.
If time permits it, I would wait for Nvidias new 3000s series of GPUs.  They seem to be very promising for FP32 calculations, which Metashape uses.
Cheers!

Hi Paul,
take a look in the project folder (*.files\1\0\depth_maps\depth_maps.zip). There you have the depth-maps in EXR format in 32-bit.
If my memory is correct, you will have to check "Keep depth maps" under the advanced settings.
Cheers!

Hi Paul,
are the sparse and dense cloud in the same position in Metashape when toggling between the views? Are the export settings identical?

I've just tested the export of sparse and dense cloud on an unreferenced project and after loading both into CloudCompare, they are in the same position. Metashape 1.6.4.
Cheers.

With 30% overlap how will you create a DEM/ Mesh for proper orthorectification?

Hi,
usually it's stated that the overlap for aerial projects should be 80% forwards and 60% sidewards. Some even do a 80% and 80% overlap.
You can get away with less than that, but your accuracy can suffer quite a bit and it's not fun trying to correct that.
Cheers!

« on: September 08, 2020, 11:35:06 AM »
Hi,
I had this happen to me before. Have you tried re-aligning the misaligned cameras (right-click on the selected images, "Align Selected Cameras")?
Currently I don't have an example project to test, but you might have to reset the alignment before (right-click on selected images, "Reset Camera Alignment").
Cheers!

General / Re: good photos, good dense cloud, BAD TEXTURE

Hi Costas,
since I don't reprocess old projects super frequently, I might have made an error. I did a little research and in an older thread I found this statement from Alexey:

"If the depth maps are present in the project and you are selecting the further processing option that assumes depth maps generation, then you will be able to re-use them (skip there generation again), providing that the same quality/filtering settings are selected.
Note that new mesh currently requires only depth maps generated with Mild filtering option, so in your workflow you would be able to re-use depth on Step 6 (build mesh) only if on set 3 (build dense cloud) you have used Mild filtering option, and on Step 6 select the same quality as on the Step 3."

The last sentence seems to be not true anymore. I just tested it with depthmaps generated with "mild" and "agressive" filters (dense cloud) and both could be reused in the meshing step. In my quick comparision, the depthmaps (and resulting mesh) with "Mild" filter settings (dense cloud) are equal to the new depth-maps created with "Build mesh". In "Build mesh" you cannot adjust the filter anymore, its automatically set to "mild" when calculating new depthmaps.

I probably misinterpreted my results when testing the two approaches and actually compared mild/ agressive filter settings and not the actual resulting depthmaps.
Thanks for pointing that out!
