Feature Requests / Re: Refining generic alignment
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:04:52 PM »
Thanks. I've actually tried that but after importing the Agisoft .xml and selecting "reference" I get the message "camera coordinates are not availabe".

Am I missing something?!

So, no chance in exposing the parameters for the generic alignment?

Hi Alessandro,
definetly check out Cloudcompare. It has some awesome tools for deviation analysis between pointclouds/ meshes.
http://cloudcompare.org/

I use it all the time for aligning and comparing different pointclouds, it gives you a visualisation and different statistics.

It depends alot on the intended purpose.
So for some basic screenshots or something "quick" I like to use Cloudcompare, but it is more for editing pointclouds than for visualisations. Also Meshlab offers some interesting shaders.

For high quality renders I love Blenders render engine cycles. It has alot to offer for somethingthat is free. Also for creating line drawings one can use Blenders other render engine "freestyle".

On the other hand, for mapping purpose I usually export ortho-images and DEMs to a GIS. Here I do shaded reliefs with height based color maps, creating contour lines etc.

And last but not least, for interactive display and combining large amount of models, I like to use Unreal 4 though the models usually need some preparation (High-poly to low-poly etc.)
Cheers!

General / Re: depth filtering processing time
« on: January 19, 2016, 02:24:02 PM »
Hi,
1. it depends on the resolution of the images and the quality setting used for reconstruction. Furthermore the reconstruction time also depends on the type of scene.
"Never" is quite a long time..

2. Afaik, none.

3. Use a lower quality setting for reconstruction or divide your project into seperate chunks and merge them afterwards. Check the manual for how to use chunks. Other than that the only thing i can thin of is more powerful hardware or node setup.

Cheers!

Edit: Alexey, thats interesting! Thanks for the info. So in regards to shooting strategy would it be wise to capture some overview images for higher accuracy in alignment and deactivating them for depth reconstruction?

Feature Requests / Refining generic alignment
« on: January 18, 2016, 05:04:09 PM »
Hello,
using the generic option for alignment has some major speed advantages but I've had quite a lot of situations where it produces fairly inaccurate results in comparision to the "disabled" align option.

Would it be possible to use the generic alignment as the basis for a finer alignment? For example using the camera-coordinates to run a second alignment using the "reference" option?

Edit: Or would it be possible to expose the parameters for the generic alignment?
This could be a trade-off between the higher accuracy of "disabled" alignment and the speed of "generic" alignment.

Bug Reports / Re: Error reading file

Hi Alexey,
thank you for the quick reply. I could send the dataset via wetransfer.

Is "support@agisoft.com" correct?
Cheers.

Bug Reports / Error reading file
« on: December 08, 2015, 03:27:28 PM »
Dear Agisoft team,
i've just finished a project and after saving it I now get a "Error reading project". In the console it states "Error: disk io error".
I've tried to repair the zip files in the .files folders, but some of them can't be repaired.
Any other chance to recover the dataset? Multiple days of calculation would be lost...

Further info: Photoscan 1.2.0. Build 2181 Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Aligned, Dense Cloud, Textured Mesh.

Cheers.

You're completely right! I've been testing their software and I must say it is very impressive!

Just to make the Agisoft team aware of it, a dataset (+ 8000 aerial 24mpx images) took a couple of days to align with PS while it took only 3 hours to align with capturingreality.

Time for some serious optimizations in Photoscan...  ;D
How about feature detection and matching on gpu basis?  ;)

General / Re: Quality point cloud reconstruction?
« on: November 30, 2015, 04:05:08 PM »
Hi,
I'd guess that using the highest possible quality setting, where every pixel is used, would require very high image quality for truly making a difference in the pointcloud detail level.

Most digital cameras use AA filters for counteracting moire, which means that the image is slightly blurred on purpose. There are some cameras without AA filter and the achievable sharpness does increase quite a bit.

Furthermore digital cameras use, with exception of Foveon sensors, a Bayer pattern for capturing color information. Every pixel on the sensor has either a red, a green or a blue filter infront. So a pixel, which actually just captured the blue part of the light, will be interpolated to achieve the final color result. Through this interpolation some image sharpness is lost. Leica, for example, offers a monochrome camera, where no color can be recorded. Comparision show a fairly signifcant increase in sharpness.

Of course additional factors contribute to the final image quality, which is the deciding factor wether it is worth processing on Ultra high. No motion blur (sturdy tripod + mirror up), diffraction, the quality of the lens used etc. etc. all influence this.

Cheers.

General / Re: Relationship PIXEL SIZE and AREA
« on: November 02, 2015, 02:18:44 PM »
Hi,
if you are trying to calculate the area and volume of a maize crop, you will need ground control points (GCPs) or at least a scale-bar in the images. The initial pointcloud from Photoscan is arbitrary i.e. it does not have a scale or position in space, therefore you cannot calculate the area/ volume without reference.

Interesting! Finally some competition for Agisoft...  ;D
Though not quite as feature-rich and polished as Agisoft.
Applied for Demo-version.

General / Re: Orthomosaic turning out very bright

Well, do the input images already vary in brightness?
Different lighting conditions or varying exposure times?

You might want to try using the color-correction. This could help.

Almost sounds like your memory is full and it starts swapping data to disk, which results in quite a slowdown.

Do the different computers have varying amounts of memory?
That would explain why the identical datasets varies in time consumption (if all other components are equal).

General / Re: stretching images..
« on: October 29, 2015, 08:08:42 PM »
AFAIK you can't enhance contrast, brightness etc. within Photoscan.

One easy workaround is to create a second set of (adjusted) images, swap them for the originals just for picking markers, save the project and afterwards change the images back to the originals (file-name must be the same).

Cheers.
