General / Re: Considering new machine - iMac or PC?
« on: June 08, 2013, 10:07:34 PM »
I am an enthusiastic Apple-fan and my house is full of Macs. Nevertheless, in the field of high performance computing, even worse when you have to take a look on the economics, Apple isn't worth a single thought any more, which is really sad. If they do not bring up a sensational new machine at the coming WWDC (10.-14.6.2013) conference, better buy a stupid Windows i7 machine with 2 AMD 7970 GPU's and at least 64 GB RAM for a fraction of Apple's prices. As long as you only use it for PS, the always frustrating hazzle with Windows shouldn't be too bad (even though I'm usually getting in rage only thinking of Microsoft ;-))).

Uuhh, really!? Might have been www.uvmsystems.com then.
Thank you!

Just incredible!
But why isn't there a product to buy with a price tag on their homepage?

Hello Alexey,

does the new support for K4 radial distortion mean that fisheye lenses could be used?

I think that currently there is only one choice concerning the best compromise in weight, resolution and lens quality: Sony NEX-7 with the 16 mm lens, which is in use by quite a lot of UAV operators. It has around 400 g and 24 MP. Disadvantage is the lousy interface for the shutter release, but this can be overcome.

I agree with Lui too. No chance to solve this problem with photogrammetry. Lidar is the better choice in this case.

Semi Global Matching seems to be an interesting concept, especially concerning the problem of taking photos of buildings and anything with vertical elements in it. Here's a good paper about it:

Many thanks, this sounds interesting and could help my next experiments.

Veeery beautiful, great work!
Could you please explain how you did it? What software used for the animation etc.?

Your tutorials are nice, many thanks. Like Ralf I'd like to know how you do the animations.

I want to underline what has already been said about the new 0.9.1 version. I tested one of my models consisting of 109 cameras, showing a landscape with lots of buildings on it. The result is a fantastic improvement. A very much more precise mesh and a texture without all the distortions of the same model calculated in 0.9.0. What excited me most is that the textures on vertical walls are veeeery much better now. Really impressive, great work! Thank you Dmitry.

Can you please give a little more information or provide the raw data on Ftp or dropbox?! I will try to reconstruct your model, if you like.

Depends on the resolution and number of photos. I've processed models in one chunk with up to 3000 photos, each with 24 MP.

Where did you find version 9.1.0/1609?? I thought to have the actual one from the homepage, which is 9.0.

George, what software did you use to create the jpg from the last post (out of the Geo-tiff I guess)?

General / Re: why photoscan can't import video ?!
« on: January 14, 2013, 01:42:37 AM »
What obvious reasons? Do you mean the missing position data, the reduced resolution...? If so, I don't think that this is necessarily prohibitive. At least the advantage might be a very dense overlap which is why I am going to try out video. What are your experiences with it?
