General / Detail shots?
« on: November 25, 2016, 11:39:48 PM »
I've watched a few tutorials where the camera man walks around an object taking photos for Photoscan and then get super close for "Detail Shots". What does this actually accomplish? Is this for reference during the texture/clean up process or does Photoscan actually use these pics as well?

Thanks All!

Hi All

So with the masks

1. Do I use the import / mask feature and if so which settings? Background, difference??
2. Or do i just create a mask for each image in photoshop? A typical black white mask?

Quick question. I'm trying to test out the import/mask backgroud feature. Does it matter what format the image is? Jpeg, png, tiff???

I am wondering what would cause this type of point cloud scatter? Almost looks like a shotgun blast. I used nikon d3200, iso 400, High Fstop low Shutter Speed. The prop was on a turn table in a light tent. I rotated it in 10 degree increments and took bottom mid and upper shots. About 150 pics. First problem i see is only 42 of the pics were aligned. I did vary the shot between 30-55mm so maybe that caused the prob?

Hello Bryan3D,

According to the "symptoms" and the information that can be seen on the screenshots I assume that the problem is related to the built-in GPS unit that writes coordinate information directly to the image EXIF. PhotoScan loads the coordinates by default from EXIF to the Reference pane and then use this data for the model referencing and scaling. If the object is rather small and the measurement accuracy in low, you'll likely have exactly the same coordinates for all the camera positions.
If it is the case, then do the following: clear the contents of the Reference pane for camera coordinates, switch to the Local Coordinates in the Reference pane settings, Reset transform from the context menu for the active chunk (after right-clicking on the chunk's label in the Workspace pane).

Boom! Thanks dude.

Disregard, I figured it out. I believe the camera on my LG G2 does not give the EXIF info. I'm a total newb to this but im pretty sure thats the issue. I was able to use the wifes camera on her phone with no issue.

After i do the Align Photos my viewport is blank. If i rotate the control sphere every once and awhile i will see the point cloud flicker in and out. It is pretty much impossible to actually view the point cloud and rotate around it. Ive also added a screen shot of my camera cal settings. Is this a legit setting?

I was able to download another posters images that he shared and I had no problems. I'm thinking my issue is too few pics I was using 12 or bad pics. Ill research it more and do some testing.

I've attached a video to show what is happening. At the 26second mark i zoom all the way out and then back in. Reset just centers the screen the problem remains. Another thing I've noticed is the region box doesn't encapsulate the mesh and its huge and offset from the pointcloud/mesh.

I'm getting a similar issue. What seems to happen is that the photo align works because I can see a vertice count  and if i rotate the control sphere in the center of the viewport I sometimes see the pointcloud/mesh pop in and out. When i try to zoom it might appear to be VERY far away then snap closer and then disappear.  This is my first go at the software but I feel that it has something to do with I am not rotating around the mesh but some other pivot point. I've seen similar issues for models too small in Maya.
