General / Re: Cluster Workflow

Thanks for explaining. Than its probably better have 2 good machines that work indipendently for parallel work and if there is a very hughe project it can be processed via cluster feature...

any help regarding this idea? Since we finally received our Agisoft licence from the German reseller we would be glad if we could improve performance on this, becouse we are doing surveys daily and we are getting really time problems....

Thanks

probably also the crossfire link, right? So GPUs should be always run in single mode, right?

Thanks Stihl, this is helping a lot
Really appreciate your engagement... Ill try a new junk rocessing. let's see if I can perform better withiuth pre cal

I have already read many times the manual on chapter 4....

no not pixel size is 3mm, but the lens is.

lens = 3mm
pixel size = 1.55 μm which converts to 0.00155 mm

please see attachment 1 how I do the camera calibration process bevore doing the image alignment.

I'm setting it normally as

Fisheye
Precalibrated + Loading the calibration XML file

Im NOT setting Fix Calibration

If I should do it the way you describe, please see screenshot 2

than I would only set Auto, lens 3mm + pixel size of 0.00155

don't know if this is right...

Anybody tested the Radeon R9 390X2 yet?   (=Dual-GPU, 2x 8 GB GDDR5 Ram, 2x Grenada Pro Chip at 1000 MHz)

are 2 R9 390X faster for Agisoft?

or should I use 2 GTX 980 Ti ?

Thx for your advise.

Im not shure whats the benefit of this... than you can install 2x R9 390X with each 8GB and youll have the same performance  but will cost about 200 EUR less...

Ok this is completely contrary to what Alex said, since they explitit deliver Agisoft Lens for precalibration....
And yes, Im using the precalibration setting created with the fotos of the Agisoft Lens pattern.

so it is enough to just setup the mm, wich would be 3mm. But those 3mm are calculated for the 1/2.3" sensor size, not on fullframe. PRobably Agisoft is using lens mm with pixel size to calculate the right values?

so you think the output would be much better if not using precalibration? Should I test again that last project to see if it will be much better?

Whats setting are you using on each workflow steps for aligning & dense cloud process? Wich settings gives you the best results?

Thanks for helping

Stihl... the calibration has been done in Agisoft Lens first as described by Alex. So for each processing im loading the XML file into the lens calibration setting before foto alignment. the only missing was the pixel size.

As described in the manual im selecting

Fisheye
Load Presetting ActionProX8.xml file
3mm focal lenght

Will Agisoft perform better if I also add the pixel size?

General / Cluster Workflow
« on: September 12, 2016, 12:53:49 PM »
I really like the option for Cluster Computing in Agisoft.... Im wondering if I can use it for faster processing, but have some question.

We have 4 Workstations in our LAN, but only on one we are running Agisoft

1. Intel i7 Hexa-Core, 128 GB RAM, Radeon R390 (Main Agisoft Workstation)
2. Intel i7 Quad-Core, 16 GB RAM, GeForce 670
3. Intel i7 Mobile Quad-Core, 16 GB RAM, GeForce 780GTX Mobile
3. Intel i7 Mobile Quad-Core, 8 GB RAM, GeForce 650M

The Files are synced over NAS to all systems, so each system has the entire data structure on his Hard Disc

Now we have seen that on systems with low RAM Agisoft stops to work due to lack of memory. If using as Cluster system probably the Memory usage will not be so high?

Can we so utilize also the other computer 2+3+4 for Cluster processing?

Would be great
Thanks

I discovered that our cameras are using Sony IMX117 sensors which is pretty good....

How do we insert the pixel size, and is it necessary for Agisoft? Its not very explained in the manual.

On Saturday we made a flight with cross pattern using NADIR + 45° Cameras, but we are still not able to get the quality out that Stihl is able to get on his DJI Inspire (which of course does have a 90° FOV camera instead of 110° from ours).

But is the difference so hughe?

I agree.... the new cameras we are testing deliver very strong image quality.... unfortunately on the project sent to stihl we had about 40km/h wind speed & very poor light, the result where impressing good for that situation.

Could be interesting to make run 2x GTX 1060 6 GB Ram. They are low price and very good and have a very low power consumption compared to AMD Radeon.

Driving 2 of these should give your very good performance.

btw your CPU is a Six Core with 12 Threads...

Probably becouse fixed wing will fly much faster, so the shutterspeed compared to the ground speed is much lower by the factor 2 or 3.

Also the fixed wing doesnt have any gimbal, so pictures are not stabilized and you ev. may not have perfect NADIR images.... pointing below

You are completely right...

we are testing this camera type especially on small drones and we are thinking to use 4 cameras at one middle drone for better output.

fisheye lens is clear to me, thats why we did the calibration in lens cal and are importing this into Agisoft

exif is not perfect atmoment but we are talking to the german manufacturer to fix the issues. but is the pixel size in mm relevant for Agisoft?

the point is really simple:

a camera with less distortion will cause longer flight time, since you have less overlapping. Or you fly at higher height and will lose groundres. so at least the difference is very less.

only difference is to use bigger sensors with more mpixels. But our A7RII will cause about 3kg extra weight, so the flight time will be much reduced. We have a RX100 too that we can test. But as more expensive the cam, as more you lose in case of a crash.

Most cameras on the market have rolling shutter, there are only a few like Blackmagic, Red, Sony highedn that have global shutter.

But rolling shutter should not be an issue at 1/1200 of a second just for pics, its more visible for video

so do you think the issues are camera related or am I doing something wrong in Photoscan?
