General / Choice of photo sequence used in orthophoto
« on: June 29, 2017, 04:55:48 AM »
I had four overlapping photos.
The orthorectification has used the photo which had the worst quality, on top of better ones. I wish the three better photos to be used on top, and the bad one to be used underneath - to fill in gaps if they exist.
Is this possible to do?

Bug Reports / Specification of Shape files, so I can see on model
« on: April 14, 2017, 12:46:52 PM »
When I import a 2D or 3D shapefile (polygon), to view on my model, sometimes they are visible, sometimes they are not.
If they are not visible, I try simplifying them to reduce the node count. That doesn't work, still invisible.
Then I tried a KML file, but got an error message - something like it couldn't accept it.

Is there a specification that always works?

Bug Reports / 1.3.1.4030 won't activate
« on: April 11, 2017, 05:51:33 AM »
I had 1.2.6 Pro and then installed 1.3.1.4030.
It says it has activated when I put in my serial/code numbers, but it hasn't.

I searched the forum, and it said to 'deactivate' first. I could not find this deactivate option - does it mean uninstall?
I tried uninstall/reinstall, but that hasn't helped.  :(

Feature Requests / Tracking RAM percent free
« on: February 24, 2017, 05:00:01 AM »
It would be useful if Photoscan could report how much RAM was being used at various stages of processing.
If this was in the LOG file every few minutes, we could see how close we came to the limit.

For example, I was doing Color Correction over 2100 photos, and ran out of RAM.
I did not know that this was a RAM-intensive thing. I closed all other programs and tried again. Being curious, I started Task Manager to see what it was using and saw RAM usage was 91%. This time the color correction completed successfully.

Python and Java API / Split In Chunks - failed
« on: February 23, 2017, 12:26:45 AM »
I'm using the Split In Chunks script, but am getting "bad allocation" after the last chunk is processed.
- The previous attempt (3x2) finished with just the final chunk having a Dense Cloud, and the other chunks have disappeared.
- I increased the number of chunks (3x5) but get a similar result. No Dense Cloud as the last chunk was in an empty zone.

LOG file:
2017-02-23 04:47:16 Merging chunks...
2017-02-23 04:47:16 Error: Empty surface '//If this refers to the final chunk, there were no cameras there.
2017-02-23 04:59:55 Finished processing in 758.664 sec (exit code 0)
2017-02-23 04:59:55 Script finished
2017-02-23 04:59:55 Error: bad allocation

Is "bad allocation" always a lack of memory?
Or could it be lack of disk space?
At what stage is the failure occurring - is it the 'Merge Back'?

The script has three options
- Build Dense Cloud
- Build Mesh
- Merge Back
Should I try just the first two options to see if the Dense Clouds and Meshes are retained?
Then is there a way to do only the Merge Back?

General / 32-bit TIFF output?
« on: February 22, 2017, 12:24:35 AM »
I created some tiles from an orthophoto, and noticed they appear to be 32-bit TIFFs, so I resaved as 24-bit which made them considerably smaller.

Does anyone know what use 32-bit TIFFs are?
Can I specify 24-bit ( 8 bits per channel ) in Photoscan for the output?

Python and Java API / Split_In_Chunks - can I restart part way through?
« on: February 01, 2017, 12:34:01 AM »
I ran the Split_In_Chunks.py script.
I specified a 2 x 5 grid so that I would have fewer than 600 photos per chunk. (I have 16GB of RAM).

This took over 13 hours, but I think it has failed because:
1. I think I saw a console window with error messages flash past after I saved then closed Photoscan.
Are those Python messages logged anywhere?
2. Build Orthomosaic is greyed out (not available).

I can't see any errors in the Agisoft log file, which finished like this:
2017-01-31 23:17:44 Merging chunks...
2017-01-31 23:27:47 Finished processing in 602.982 sec (exit code 1)
2017-01-31 23:27:47 Script finished

Can I restart the script part way through?
I have some large files that may still be good:
- dense_cloud.oc3   3.0GB
- model.zip   933MB
- point_cloud.zip   310MB

General / A few pink rectangles among the large number of blue rectangles
« on: January 30, 2017, 05:50:22 AM »
In my model view of cameras, there are several isolated pink rectangles?
What are these, and do I need to do something with them?

General / Photo rotation needed or not?
« on: January 30, 2017, 04:30:39 AM »
I have a question about rotation of photos for aerial surveys.
This project has many photo sequences, mostly taken in a north-to-south, or south-to-north direction.  I rotated many of these in an external program, to make it easier for me to find GCPs which occur on existing orthophotos. The 'Align Photos' using Reference (photos had GPS in EXIF) worked well; but while placing GCPs, I have found some photos that I failed to rotate 180ยบ, and I have some markers that are wanting to go in a completely wrong position.

What to do next? Ignore the marker for those photos? Rotate the images outside of Photoscan? Rotate them inside Photoscan? Does this mean my Key Point and Tie Point recognition needs to be repeated?

General / Aerial photos with GPS, GCPs, limited RAM
« on: January 25, 2017, 01:25:08 AM »
I have looked at many posts, but it isn't obvious what approach to take.

I have about 4000 20MP photos (with GPS) to make into a high quality orthophoto (split into tiles).
I have 16GB of RAM, which I calculate is good for 600 photos at once.
I will use as many very accurate GCPs as required. Either 10 per chunk, or perhaps 20+ over the whole area.

How do I proceed? I see two choices.
Option 1: - process this as a series of overlapping chunks?
Option 2: - align all photos into one chunk using Reference preselection. I see mention of "duplicate the original chunk and generate mesh model for smaller areas by resizing the bounding box"

Any suggestions?

General / Markers appearing on wrong photos
« on: January 17, 2017, 02:51:02 AM »
I have 14 ground control points for a set of 21 overlapping aerial photos.
After I have found and adjusted 3 markers on several photos, I Update & Optimize Cameras. Then I continue with remaining markers. Some markers are correct on one photo, but also appear a very long way away on a wrong photo.

How do I deal with markers which appear on a wrong photo? I want to keep the marker if it is on a correct photo.
- Do I just drag it off the photo, turning it from grey to a blue flag?

Also some unrelated questions:
- Is it important to include the pixel size in the Camera Calibration for a digital photo?
- When should I tick the Fixed calibration box?

General / Add/remove photos after GCP points all done?
« on: July 21, 2016, 01:28:35 AM »
I have 38 aerial photos in my project.
I have located and marked GCPs on all the photos.

I should have checked the photo quality earlier, and now want to remove 4 photos and replace them with some spare photos. Can I do this without re-observing all my GSPs?

General / Exclude trees from DTM
« on: July 20, 2016, 02:23:37 AM »
I'm new to PhotoScan, and am having trouble removing trees from my Dense Cloud.
- I have tried automatic, but aren't sure of the best values to use.
- I have tried manual, but the Mesh and DEM seem to be including All Points. (I selected a clump of trees and assigned them to Tree Class. Then I build the mesh using just the other points, but I think it is using all points.)
What step have I missed?
