having searched you tube and the internet and found NOTHING. Also open agisoft help, click search tab and search on mask and also *mask* and found NOTHING. not even on using Agisoft own tools.

I wish to mask out the multi subject background on ONE image which is causing lack of alignment. I presume doing so is ok, I dont have to mask the other 65 as well when they DO ALIGN , or does using mask with one mean all need masking, I hope not !
We all have photos that fail due to something in the one that doesnt appear in the others !

If I use Agisoft magic wand it gets bits of it, it will take forever, also the scissors are going to take ages as they keep wandering about onto my object.

I can do that selection in a minute in photoshop.

What are the steps involved in photoshop then in agisoft ?

something like
1. with image open, and brush edge at preferred softness to suit image, and black selected,  hit Q and paint round the object with black , it appears in red, make good any gaps.
2. hit Q and see crawling ants, invert selection if need be, you need the background selected.
3. save as a channel using menu Select>Save Selection option.
7. import image with mask in the following way....

more detail such as what it should look like in photoshop when mask done.

This needs pinning at top of threads !

General / Numpad navigation removed from 1.8.2 why ?
« on: August 09, 2022, 01:29:30 AM »
Metashape 1.8.2
I go to numpad hit 5, and nothing happens, it should toggle ortho/perspective, it always used to.
I try the row of numbers and then it works.

Why has the logical place for left top bottom views, the numpad, been removed from such navigation ?

has everyone complained its not sensible to hit 4 for left view 8 for top and so on ?

I am in the throes of battling a win10 build where Msoft have decided to make change for changes sake, 3 weeks lost to such tactics, TRAGIC LOSS OF TIME, and to find my normal workflow altered in progs built by folk that I thought didnt do such as well, is upsetting.

also a 22 pic project sees 12 images not aligned, I try them in photoscan and ALL get aligned, despite flagging up the fact that photoscan always succeeds and metashape is forever failing in step 1, its still happening. It is unsettling to say the least that forward movement in the basics is not happening.

General / System requirements doesnt mention OS required
« on: July 07, 2022, 06:58:01 PM »
I run Photoscan 1.2 6 and Metashape 1.7.4 and 1.8.2 on win 7 64bit.

will all these run on windows 10 64 bit ?

I dont see any info on this in System Requirements and the OS should be mentioned there !

I do need Photoscan 1.2.6 to work on windows 10 as often it manages to do what metashape fails on, mostly aligning ALL photos when metashape fails.

I wish Metashape issues could be fixed but they persist.
(not tried 1.8.3 yet)

General / basic CAD navigation needed as most annoying to use
« on: February 28, 2022, 01:20:37 AM »
whilst mewtashape has rotate region, move region etc, that works

and rotate model, move it etc, that works.
once one has aligned the model to grid, and the region to the model, there is NO EASY WAY TO ROTATE THE ENTIRE SCENE.
If I use right mouse button and drag down my mouse matt, 1inch on matt normally will take cursor entire height of monitor , or in Rhino get me from side view to looking down onto the model. metashape doing so sees a few degrees of movement, will take many to get above it.

Am I missing something ? where is the swinging atomic icon for quick swirling around over around and under the model ?

Now get this, with grid as a grey line across screen, i do a max mat move, and I gave gained 10 degree, I do again, now 20deg but its gone off bott of screen, I scroll out to see it AND AS I DO SO THE 20 DEG IS DIMINISHING TO BECOME 3 degs, so all height has been lost with scrolling out. In CAD zooming in and out does not reduce any height gained !

ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ABOVE IT AT ALL. hit reset view and I am above, then start the attempt to move around the scene again.

The grid is sort of hinged over in the background it seems.

we are using CAD then we come to metashape and  blimey its like wading through molasses !

General / Which is best metashape version to install considering bugs etc ?
« on: February 27, 2022, 11:09:36 PM »
I am with 1.7.1 and had holes in mesh , and some images not aligned, even when they were ok in a prior chunk, when photoscan was used on the same images it was perfect.
I see folk with holes and gripes in 1.8.0, as such I avoided 1.8.0
I now see we are with 1.8.1.
is the .1 the fix to 1.8.0 issues ?

If not why not after over 6 months ? we have work to do.

is the pro version fine and the standard ill ?

There is no point in having the speed and navigational advances of metashape if its bad.

I have just fed it a lovely set of images, all were aligned, that was a good start, but then a complete mess resulted, just a few blobs, dense cloud looked like an explosion in a hay bale, worst ever.

Loads of 'added ' feature in the Agisoft hype, but what of these basic fundamental problems, certainly why can photoscan align and not reject far better and not make holes ? (just terribly slow)

I havent been able to use Agisoft metashape awaiting fixes for many months.

Also still awaiting tech feedback, normally very good, not heard a thing after 6 months.

Metashape 1.7.4
When I open the obj file into Rhino3D and then apply the .jpg image, all looks fine if model is a few inches wide on screen, when I zoom in its getting a far more rough, when I view the photo taken on site of the same area its far better, superb, a shock to the system in what I am having to work with.

I can see the details I wish I could see in CAD.

I am part guessing the base of an item, or the location of an S bend in metal etc.

It needs a better resolution image created when making obj.

How is this done ?

or perhaps there is a better way of getting the model out with hi res image and into CAD.

Also in fact the model view in Agisoft is nowhere near as detailed as the image if I double click the photo shown below the model window, is there a way of having a more detailed view in Agisoft. Perhaps that view then generates the hi res obj file ?

One for Rhino3D users. though other CAD progs may have same method so anyone is invited to answer.
I originally titled is as Rhino3D but other CAD users might have a  method that works in Rhino3D.

Ideally a Rhino3D user might have the answer.

In metashape and Photoscan, the model is displayed in a single colour, (violet on my version) called 'solid' mode, and one can assess where the surface is best and where its a bit lumpy or even has holes.

I need this view in my CAD prog, so I can see where best to place sections before redrawing as curves and surfaces using the CAD progs geometry tools, making a normal model, using the mesh just for reference.

I export from agisoft as an .obj
I import the obj into Rhino. Then in rendered mode one has to select the mesh, alter assign material from 'Layer' to 'Object' then click colour and browse to the .jpg file the obj created.
Then in shaded mode I can pull in that hi res texture version using command SetObjectDisplayMode and delect mesh then select rendered in options,  it displays model as if viewed in rendered mode. VERY USEFUL.

Then we see the hi res raster image, as viewed in Agisoft.

I need to toggle between the Rhino hi res texture image and an image just like the 'solid' mode one in Agisoft.

How do I create that Agisoft 'solid' mode type monocolour model showing lumps and bumps image in Rhino3D such that I can go back and forth between it and the hi res image with a command or click ?
I need to see where the smooth areas are when placing sections then revert to the hi res image to continue with those sections.

Before I mess about uninstalling 1.7.4 and figuring out how to install 1.7.1 , has the inability of 1.7.4 to create textures correctly (no blurred areas)  been fixed yet as it was reported a month or so ago, and with hard evidence sent to tech support, but not heard back from them at all.  :(  Not the usual 2 day service mentioned there.  several weeks so far. Others also said it was a bug, and suggested 1.7.1

I also still find that Photoscan is usually better at aligning all images, as well as making the texture without blurred areas. If it wasnt that it was SLOW, 5 x as slow, and had no mesh from Depth map, and lousy 3D model manipulation tools , I would prefer it, as it is I am between a rock and a hard place., Unable to actually do a simple job with whats offered by Agisoft.

General / Can metashape 1.7.1 be installed without removing 1.7.4 ?
« on: November 01, 2021, 02:50:22 AM »
I need to try 1.7.1 to solve the blurred mesh bug in 1.7.4,but as 1.7.4 managed to allign all photos in a project with glazing reflections, I was impressed, even if it failed on the next chunk of cab interior rejecting the very same photos it aligned in the first chunk !

I also absolutely dont want to lose Photoscan 1.2.6 as its the texture maker instead of 1.7.4

As such do I have to uninstall 1.7.4 ?

also where will 1.7.1 get its Licence number from ? I dont have it in my version folders, perhaps it picks up on the one for photoscan.

I have asked support this but no reply received.

General / Can decimate be done just on non detailed areas ?
« on: November 01, 2021, 02:44:41 AM »
decimate mesh spoils detail on areas that need the fine mesh, but its wrong to end up with so many faces causing my CAD prog to takes ages to do anything with the mesh , when there are planar or non detail areas not requiring thousand of minute polygons.

Is there a way to reduce the faces intelligently ?

Am I right in thinking such reduction is best done in the prog that holds the source photos ?

Could my CAD prog if it has more intelligent mesh revision be used if it has the texture .jpg applied in materials >allocate by object, browse to jpg, (need to do per viewport) carried out ?

I am told get client to use Agisoft viewer to view model.
I see he has to install it on his PC. (he might be uuncomfortable with that, is there no online viewer ? Many companies, certainly Govt bodies wouldnt allow that , I talk from experience !

I install Agisoft Viewer as if I am client.

I go file open and see file types supported :-
.vpz and .3dv and it says Viewer projects, so ??? why is it only able to open a project and how do I turn my model into a project for it...baffled already. :-\

Now what the heck are those ? How is he going to cope as....

I cant find them in metashape file export model, or file save as.

Why is this so difficult when all I want is allow client to view model ?

It apparently allows the user to take measurements, which is what I need, though Metashape has no means of applying a scale or dimension to the model (standard).

This is NOT user friendly is it ?

Just how do we make a file to send to client featuring textures and orientation as I have it, for him to open in Agisoft Viewer ?

metashape despite all options tried manages to introduce blurred areas in texture.

THE IMAGES ARE FINE, PHOTOSCAN MAKES A NON BLURRED TEXTURE WITH THEM. I need photoscan to texture the metashape better model mesh. (though Pscan has a better non holy mesh in some areas) though surface is certainly more lumpy, BUT the texture is perfect.

I export the Metashape 1.7.4 model which is a better smoother mesh and better looking in model shaded mode, (made using mesh from depth maps) using file save as 1.2 as a .psz

I open the Pscan model and go file>append and bring in the 1.2

I use Photoscan to texture the 1.2, now meta mesh has a perfect texture.

File save as 'meta model 1.2 texture by pscan.psz  '

Open meta 1.7.4 and file > open this file AND IT OPENS WITHOUT THE TEXTURE .  :'( >:(   where did the texture go ?

all that because metashape despite being now 1.7.4 has a fault and cannot make a decent texture.

Why didnt metashape bring in the texture with the .psz ?

Please Agisoft fix the blurred texture problem, waited 2 weeks on this been fiddling with it all ways and still failed.
Between a rock and a hard place ! by now 1.7.4 shouldnt have such basic problems. It also wont align all the images yet same images Photoscan aligns the entire lot !

why is it that Photoscan is far better in texturing and aligning ? but unusable as its HORRENDOUSLY SLOW. 5.5 hrs v 1 hr on this yesterday.  has no mesh from Depth map method which is far better and the reason along with speed to try and stay with meta 1.7.4

Very fed up. 2 weeks which I cannot afford to spend solving this and another project with texture blur metashape issues and got nowhere.

How can I get that Pscan texture onto this Meta model 1.2 ?

update... I tried a .psx save with Photoscan and in Metashape 1.7.4 file >open and browse to that, AND I HAVE TEXTURES.

My metashape model has a decent texture courtesy of Photoscan 1.2.6 HOORAY

its a bug !

I have just read in a different part of the forum , bug reports

Its a bug in 1.7.4

3 weeks wasted.

I wish we all were told,  rather than have us think we the user are not doing something right.

1.7.1 apparently is best until they fix it.,

How does one get hold of 1.7.1 ?

metashape 1.7.4
experimenting with different 'make texture' settings to see if I can overcome the blurred areas on the default settings offered.
having made one on the defaults offered, I dont see it as an item showing in the chunks set at left, so how can I get hold of the result and have Metashape use it or another one and compare them ?

How could I bring into Metashape just the texture from Photoscan as Photoscan doesnt have the blurred texture problem. (my gut feeling is it wouldnt work as the model wouldnt be exactly the same, so taking the model into photoscan then making texture is the better workflow)

Any recommendations on what are best texture making settings ?
Photoscan 1.2.6 has:-
Mapping Mode: Generic, Orthophoto, Adaptive orthophoto, Single camera, Keep UV
Blending Mode: Mosaic (default), Average, Max Intensity, Min Intensity, Disabled
Texture Size/count 4096 x 1 are default figures both editable.
Advanced: tickbox Enable Color Correction and tickbox Enable Hole Filling

Metashape 1.7.4 has:-
Texture Type: Diffuse Map, Occlusion Map
Source Data: Images, 3D Model (4,7...High quality)
Mapping mode: Generic, Orthophoto, Adaptive orthophoto, Single camera, keep UV
Blending mode: Mosaic (default), Average, max intensity, Min intensity, Disabled
Texture size/count: 4096 x 1 are default figures both editable
Advanced: tickbox Enable hole filling, and tickbox Enable ghosting filter

Now it is clear that extra options exist, also any schoolroom lesson on combinations will have you realise there are many permutations on these to make for a full set tried out, (unless some grey out when others are chosen).

Has anyone any suggestions on what to pick in metashape to get a texture from multiple images single chunk project (object not moved) that hasnt any blurred areas (images have no blurred areas).

With no means of saving the texture trying out all these permutations in metashape will be a struggle.

refering to the options in the order stated above, where bold in that list are those chosen,
In metashape I have used settings that first appear, assuming they are best, Diffuse Map, Images, generic, Mosaic,4096 x 1, Hole fill untick, enable ghost filter ticked. and ended up with blurred areas.

In photoscan Generic, Average, 4096 x 1, Colour Correction untick, hole filling ticked.
and no blurs resulted.

Any chosen raise alarm bells with anyone ?

If I can solve this, as not heard from Tech support yet after 2 weeks and I need to get the job done,  it just leaves the failure to align images (where photoscan doesnt fail) to be solved, then the superior mesh making of Metashape can be used, and Photoscan finally put to rest.

Photoscan create dense point cloud farm tractor.
Align photos took ages, but that was nothing compared to next stage...make dense point cloud.
25% done overall process, 41% done on reconstructing depth  1hr 07 passed,  1hr 26 still to go.
this time is not accurate as earlier on it added up to 2hr 20 mins now its 2hrs 33mins so the goal posts keep moving.

Whats the betting its 3hrs. then the mesh to make another hour. could be 5hrs to do what metashape did in 45mins.

But as it makes blurred textures and Photoscan correct ones, I have to revert to an old program and this HORRENDOUS SLOW SPEED, unable to use PC as PC slow during it and I wish it to use all resources.

I do wish metashape got fixed. I updated to latest 1.7.4 thinking all would be good.

Can I export Metashape backwards to get Photoscan to do just the textures ?

General / How to make metashape fbx export as an earlier fbx version ?
« on: October 20, 2021, 11:12:10 PM »
Need to get model export as fbx into Rhino V5 it says error, something wrong, maybe fbx latest version and not compatible.

How do I export as an earlier version ?

I tried photoscan but it does open and is pure white no textures.

there was a fbx converter from Autodesk but  I cannot get hold of it it has a red nasty flagged up in

Also been told fbx reviewer will do so but after install it has absolutely no file save function.
