Does it matter if all my zoom options are disabled at the camera settings?

You can do that, use zoom at minimum and do not use auto focus.
But still you can have some focal distance range, unfortunaly the lens geometry is not rigid for zoom lens for use in photogrammetry.
I still do not use UAV, I saw some here in Brazil but we are dealing with some legal issues to use it properly.
I think you could change your camera for this new mirrorless digital like Nikon N1, Samsung NX 1000 or Sony Alpha NEX 7, etc.

Hi George

The camera adds to the problem. The zoom lens is not recommended because their internal construction do not keep the distance focal all the way through.
Beyond that, you have the crop factor this kind lens have, so you do not have the real distance focal.
So, a profissional camera with a full frame sensor - without crop factor - and a fixed lens will give you a better results.
You can use a 24, 28, 35 or 50 mm fixed lens, it depends how higher you will flight and which are your purposes.
I?ve been using a Canon EOS 5D MK II with 21 megapixel with a 28 and 35 mm fixed lens.
I am looking for a new Nikon D800 with 36.3 megapixel or the new 5D MKIII.

I hope to helped you.

Lumix LX5 - very simple stuff tho :)

but 24 mm angle, which is quite good

George, this a very very very good camera and your problem is not the lens.
One problem is that not a full frame camera because has the some conversion lens factor.
I would suggest you use the some DSLR like Canon 5D MK II/III or Nikon, and use a fixed focal lens.
Zoom lens didn?t work as good as fixed ones.

If you want to know more pm.

George

Which camera are you using?

Is it a full frame camera?

As high as possible.

We flew a test area with 10 cm GSD.

Hi George

Thanks for your reply.

That is another big problem, because I don?t have any DTM...

General / Forestry volume for mass timber.
« on: December 10, 2012, 06:04:30 PM »
Hi guys

Let?s see if you can help me.

I have a lot of customers that want the forestry volume to calculate the mass timber.
I did to a single plot in PS and worked fine.
But my customers need this to more than a hundred plots. So, to do this in PS is painful.
Is there another way to this in PS and/or ArcGIS or other GIS package?
I thought to crop all the DEM using a multi poligon shapefile, but in ArcGIS you need a reference plane above or below, so didn?t work because it put more extra volume.

Anyone could help on this??

I would use both data, gps from flying AND the total station with mirrorless target.
I think will be the best way to use.

Thanks for your answer.

Ok to put those information in camera calibration tool and fix them, but what are the good parameters for my camera ? All the values are in mm, except sensor size.

Secondly, how to import the positions of my images (XYZ, omega, phi, kappa) and how to fix them during the "align photos" step ? The Coordinates of my photos come from a bundle block adjustment software and are very very accurate (some mm) and I want to keep them.

Thanks a lot.

Regards.

Which is your GSD? 0.2 meters is very good...

Unfortunaly countour lines is not a option in PS, I would like to have this too... ;D

Balyoa

You have to put this in a txt file with the imagery name and then load them at ground control.
Regarding the camera values I?ll see here and tell you later.

Hi Balyoa

I had this same problem a little while ago.
I put those information at Tools-Calibration C?mera
I just have to transform the focal lenght mm to pixels.
I put it manually and then save the data.
