+1 for adding 3DGS into Metashape.

Metashape remains our go-to software, ranging from small UAV surveys to large-scale aerial projects with 10k-20k medium format images. Integrating 3DGS would be a game changer, especially if it mirrors the professional capabilities of tools like Skyline Photomesh (for training) or superpl.at (for editing).

The main limitations of current 3DGS implementations that Metashape could solve are:

  • Tiled Training & Level of Detail (LoD): Most tools struggle with VRAM limits. A tiled approach for massive datasets is essential for professional aerial mapping.
  • Native CRS Support: Most 3DGS toolsets lack support for various Coordinate Reference Systems, especially those with large offsets (high coordinates). Metashape's robust geodetic engine would solve this natively.
  • LiDAR & Multi-Sensor Fusion: While DJI Terra recently added 3DGS, it is limited to DJI sensors and JPEG processing. Metashape has the potential to outperform this by allowing a fusion of LiDAR data and high-res imagery from any sensor for 3DGS training.
  • Professional Export Formats: For integration into modern web environments, a direct export to Cesium 3D Tiles (supporting 3DGS) would be vital.
  • Seamless Workflow: Using MS’s superior image alignment and masking tools directly for training would eliminate the need for error-prone exports to third-party software.

Implementing this would undoubtedly keep Metashape at the forefront of the SfM and remote sensing market.

It would be beneficial to display the total number of already orthorectified images during the "Build Orthomosaic" process. For large-scale projects, it can be challenging to estimate the remaining time, particularly as the estimated time and overall progress bar tend to fluctuate significantly throughout the process.

Suggestion:
After processing each group of 20 images, display the number of orthorectified images alongside the total number of activated images in a line within the "Details" panel of the progress window. For example:

...
240828_125456391_Camera_2: 18048x21171 -> 17695x21047
240828_125458251_Camera_2: 17920x21196 -> 17630x20897
240828_125500191_Camera_2: 18304x19960 -> 17907x19763
Finished orthorectification in 271.577 sec
Orthorectified images: 1220 / 2093
loaded camera partition in 0 sec
loaded orthomosaic data in 0.005 sec
Orthorectifying images...
...

Cheers & keep it up.

Hi Alexey

You find the log in the attachments. I tried all interpolation modes as well as various ex- and import formats.

Thank you!

Urs

Hi & thanks for your answer Alexey

I've aligned 30 aerial images with 100MP resolution, measured GCPs, optimized the cameras and built a DenseCloud on default High settings. I've exported a part of it (defined by the region) and imported this partial cloud with 4'073'236 points into a duplicated chunk.
When i build the Mesh it estimates approx. 800'000 faces on High but i end up with only 3'324 faces. I tried a custom face count but no matter how much i specify i end up with the same 3'324 faces.
Edit: i tried resetting the region to the full extend of the aligned images as well as limiting the region even a little more on the area which is covered by the imported dense cloud.

I have added screenshots showing the imported dense cloud and the processed but "failed" mesh.

Urs

Hi fellows

I'm facing the same problem... Did you found a solution?

Thanks & cheers

Hi Steve

You can achieve this with DaVinci Resolve. It is a free video editing software from Blackmagic Design (they produce cinema cameras). Besides the function you need it is maybe the best software for color grading.

General / Re: Drawing tools dont work in ortho mode

Thanks for your answer Alexey!

As far as i remembered i did not have any shapes in it. I just processed another tile, checked again, and it works! :) pretty cool, i already feared this does not work if the mosaic source isn't processed out of the images.

Thanks again, i'm busy now ^^

General / Drawing tools dont work in ortho mode
« on: November 20, 2016, 07:50:13 PM »
Hi all!

I try to edit seamlines in an orthomosaic, but i cant draw anything. While drawing, on double click or click on the first point of a polygon to close it, it just vanishes and i can't assign the images. None of the drawing tools works. It works in model mode drawing in the mesh, but not in ortho mode in the mosaic.

What am I missing? Mosaic source is an imported DEM, and not a mesh if this does matter. But I can not find any possible exclusions for the drawing tools in the manual.

Thanks for any hints!

Regards,

Urs
