General / Re: Measure Volume - Units
« on: July 17, 2020, 06:00:39 AM »
So, no comments =  no way for user to specify/change measurement units, correct?  If that's the case, I'll add this to features request.  It seems like some very basic elements are missing in the app if using a terrain modeling workflow.  Is that because Metashape's origin is in object modeling and geographic use of the software is still new?

Dan, No experience with the E2 but there is a little user discussion on Drone Deploy if you're interested.

General / Measure Volume - Units
« on: July 11, 2020, 04:42:58 AM »
How do you specify which units you want volume measurements displayed in?

Note, I've searched the forum and found similar questions asked, but no answer.  Is this forum simply for peer to peer help and questions should be asked via email to Agisoft?

Thanks,
Dave

Feature Requests / Re: Workflow - New Instance option
« on: July 10, 2020, 01:56:03 AM »
+1

Also, related to this request, I think https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=11549.0

Yes, same problem.  And I also agree about having a more definitive "active" element notification than just regular vs. italics.  I understand a "flat" GUI is all the rage right now.  But couldn't the active element , whether in a list or toolbar icon,  be colored and the rest remain flat?

If this is offensive to those that must have everything flat, please consider making it a user preference.

Thank you.

Feature Requests / Workflow - New Instance option
« on: July 09, 2020, 11:21:20 PM »
New user perspective.

When creating a new instance of a file type, the program will over-write the current default of that type if it exists.  To avoid the instance being over-written, you must first select the instance and then toggle off the default parameter.

Would it not make more sense to let the user choose by way of a preference what will happen when a new instance is generated and one (or more) already exist?

For example, I would like:
1. Over write current default
2. Generate new instance
3. Ask each time.

Thank you for your consideration!

Feature Requests / Selection Toolset -> Add Polygon Tool
« on: July 09, 2020, 11:14:28 PM »
New user perspective here.

When manually classifying objects in the Dense point cloud, it would be more efficient in some cases to be able to use the polygon tool to make a selection.  The free-form select tool is good for some things and probably is great with the use of a stylus, but for mouse use, it is a little inaccurate in many cases requiring multiple selections to select some objects when trying to keep the selection "tight".

Thank you for your consideration.

General / Mesh using Ground class only. Interpolation??
« on: July 05, 2020, 11:36:30 PM »
When generating a Mesh from a dense point cloud that has been classified, I can only get a Mesh that uses only ground classified points if I set "Interpolation" to "Disabled".  And then I get holes which is to be expected.

If I make any other selection for Interpolate, it uses all classifications even if I select Ground only.
Metashape cannot close the holes by either interpolation or extrapolation when using only ground points?

Thank you!

General / Re: Placing Markers (GCPs) Images don't load.
« on: July 04, 2020, 06:35:08 PM »
I was pointed to this thread: https://www.agisoft.com/forum/index.php?topic=7556.15

I opened Metashape with "C:\Program Files\Agisoft\Metashape Pro\metashape.exe" --opengl angle
and the images now load.

Since I have no knowledge of Metashape, I don't know if other elements (e.g. toolbars) are acting properly.

Console log follows.  Is there a compatibiltiy issue with a display driver or something?
Thanks!

General / Placing Markers (GCPs) Images don't load.
« on: July 04, 2020, 05:41:44 PM »
I just downloaded a trial of Metashape.  I am following the workflow here: https://www.agisoft.com/index.php?id=31
When I select an image, it loads in the viewer, but only a very pixelated version and the loading notification never moves beyond "0 %".  There is no zooming available and there would be no way to identify a marker in such a low resolution copy of the image anyway.   The image files have not moved and Metashape reports that it can find them.

Any ideas how to get past this?
Also, the app icons are very small on my uhd screen and I've tried my usual workarounds for apps that have this issue, but with no change in this case.  Maybe I'm missing something here.

Thank you!
Dave

I'm looking forward to it so long as it is not as lame as the M210 or M600 implementation of "RTK".

General / Re: Is Photoscan the correct tool for production volumetric calcs

Thank you, Alexey.

I think I remember that generating a DEM with the demo version is not possible.  Is that correct or I am mistaken?

Global Mapper is only $500 and then you'll be able to do much more than Pix4D.

Global Mapper would still require an additional SFM application, correct?

Hello dpitman,

PhotoScan Pro can perform basic measurements, that include volume measurement based on the DEM - you can draw a polygonal shape in the Ortho view, right click on it, choose Measure option and switch to Volume tab. There currently you can choose between three options of the base plane: mean level, custom level and best fit.

You have used mesh-based volume calculation and that procedure is more complicated that measurements on DEM.

I was just following the tutorial.  Is there a documented workflow for the DEM approach?

Thanks for the input.  I was hoping I was missing something in Photoscan.  Pix4d can do this pretty easily but of course is 2x+ the price.
