General / Misalignment
« on: May 08, 2020, 05:19:41 PM »
What do You do when face misalignment issues like this:

Sometimes it is not that obvious but cause problems later- some wormholes in the model etc.

I tried to calibrate the camera but that seems to have no influence.

Hi

It would be nice to decimate mesh as percentage of the original, as project can contain many items and i want to decimate them proportionally- lets say 5% of the original mesh.
Also now Batch Decimate overwrites original mesh, I would like an option to generate new mesh.

Feature Requests / Export Scaling Map
« on: April 20, 2020, 09:23:27 AM »
Hi

I really like that Metashape provides numeric statistics for min/max scaling.
What I would like (and maybe it is already possible ?), can I export Scaling map to texture?
I want to visualize which parts are stretched on the 3d model.

Now it is hard to even capture the area with windows tools as boundary edge is not visible.

I cant find how to export uv stretch map even from Blender. Maybe anyone can give any tips how to do that any other way?

Feature Requests / Paint Masks with Brush
« on: March 10, 2020, 10:43:25 AM »
With "Strict masking" it is possible to get great results from few an very simple masks. No need to fine trace edges.

I just wish they could be created more easily, something like circular brush with adjustable size would be perfect.

P.S. I cant fathom how to use "Intelligent Paint".

General / DataSet processing challenge.
« on: December 11, 2019, 11:19:29 PM »
Hi everyone!
I do have some problems with choosing best parameters in MetaShape for some projects.
I hope I am not alone and we can all share best practices and learn from each other.

I shot this sculpture:

Feel free to download this dataset and play with it.

Just for comparison I tried this data set on Reality Capture, 3DF Zephyr, Meshroom for comparison. So that is possible to achieve a reasonable model out of them.

That is what I can get with Metashape:  :(

It's just hard for me to achieve good results with MetaShape with these photos. Legs are the hardest part.
I know photos from the phone are not the best source, but Reality Capture seems to process it rather good.

I am open to hearing from You how would You process this dataset.
Please download the set and try to extract the best model You can.
Please post pictures, Settings used, Steps You took etc.

P.S.
Please do not use MetaShape PRO version features.

P.S.S.
If You try, but could not get better result, please write as well.

Hi

I decided to give this tool a thorough test in my photogrammetry workflow. I shoot objects in nature.
I choose overcast days to shoot for obvious reasons, but general light direction is still present most of  the times.

I created a scene to test this delighting tool- Cylinder rock/concrete object placed at overcast day near a wall so it blocks overcast lighting and creates ambient shadow:

Then all the usual-> import to metashape, generate DenseMesh, Retopo - Create Texture for it.
And we have result I want to Delight:

I was painting strokes for quite a while but could not get a satisfactory results.
Here is the link to Test Cylinder object if anyone is willing to give it a shot.

I am after results comparable to old-school way- delighting in "Unity Delighter" tool (also free):

Texture De-Lighter / Missing Features
« on: July 06, 2019, 10:38:33 PM »
Hi. Great initial release ! Thank You for this amazing tool.

Couple of things to improve user experience:

  • Undo when painting strokes.
  • Shortcuts to paint Lit/Shadow/Extra brushes and shortcut to increase/decrease radius.
  • Ability to see what Control Parameters were used in properties of each chunk object And how long it took to calculate.
  • Ability to View(and export) delit texture map (Instead of exporting whole Model + texture and then viewing texture.jpg in external viewer).
Anyway even application as it is now, it is very cool utility and definitely a gem in photogrammety workflows.
