General / Re: How does Assign Images works ?
« on: February 23, 2021, 11:37:20 AM »
Hello PROBERT1968,

Using "Draw Polygon" and/or "Draw Patch" is essentially the same. There is only a slight difference. In "Draw Patch" the best fit image will be applied automatically.
Note: You can still choose to assign a different picture than the "best fit".

Description from the Help Documentation:

"If the Assign image operation should be repeated several times, it is recommended to use  Draw Patch tool available from the Ortho menu or with a corresponding Toolbar button of the Ortho view menu. In this case it will still be required to draw polygons as in the procedure above, but the best fit image will be assigned automatically, being selected with respect to the first drawn vertex of the patch."

In any case after assigning the photos you want, always remember to use the "Update Orthomosaic".

Python and Java API / Re: List of Tweaks ?
« on: February 13, 2021, 12:49:39 PM »
I'm a little confused Alexey.

I'm using Agisoft Photogrammetric Kit for Topcon v.1.7.0

I can set main/dense_cloud_max_neighbors = 850 but if i try to set the parameter for the NEW depth maps in version 1.7 as you said to BuildDepthMaps/pm_max_neighbors i get an error that "this parameter is not found"

Why is that?

Is my program using the OLD or the NEW depth maps?

If it indeed still uses the NEW depth maps is the main/dense_cloud_max_neighbors tweak working for me?

General / Re: Contour lines and false colour to show depth

It is possible to generate Contour Lines within Metashape.

1) Right click on the generated DEM and choose "Generate Contours"
2) On the pop-up menu choose your settings.

After classification did you change the view so you can see the classification? (pic1)

You can also "filter by class" (pic2) to see only the classes you need.

Calculations take place for everything that is inside the Region Box. Thus by scaling and moving the Region Box you can limit the area of the calculations.

In your example you can:

1) Run initial alignment (High)
2) Scale and move the Region Box to the area you want. eg. so only the building is inside the box.
3) Continue to other steps to calculate Dense Cloud, 3D Model etc.

you can find the Region Box in the toolbar (photo attached)

When you are on the "Export Orthomosaic" dialog you must check the last option called "Write Alpha Channel".

This will add transparency to the .gif file and thus you will get rid the white background.

Feature Requests / Re: Possibility to create TIN model
« on: October 20, 2020, 01:59:53 PM »
Hello Alexey,

The program i wanted to import the .dxf into is called "Tessera" by a Greek company (Anadelta) thus it is not very common and known. I use it for Road & Railway design & construction.

Exporting 3D model as "3D faces .dxf" worked fine for my project.

Thank you for your answer.

It would be nice to have the option to create a TIN model and export it as .dxf for use in other programs.

Hello all,

I'm trying to draw some Polylines to use them as Break lines in Dense Point cloud view AND/OR Mesh Model view.

The problem is that i cannot manipulate the camera as in normal view. The only operation i can do in the camera while drawing a polyline is to Zoom In/Out (with the scroll wheel) and pan the camera Left&Right (Right Click). Any other button just stops the drawing operation.

This is a big problem because i cannot Rotate the camera and thus i cannot have a clear view on the points i want to draw.

Please fix that behavior and allow camera manipulation while Drawing tool is active.

General / Re: 3D DEM generation

Hi,

Not exactly from DEM, but this script could be a workaround : it colors the mesh with Z values.

Hope it will fit your needs.

Sébastien

This is very cool script.

I'm not very good at scripting but is there another script to revert the colors at their original? (colored from point cloud).

General / Re: Intelligent paint... is it of any use for you?
« on: October 09, 2020, 11:32:24 AM »
OK. I gave it a try after seeing your post and i think i got it.

(Note i use v1.6.4)

When you are at a photo and you want to make a selection the "Intelligent paint" works like the "Magic wand" but with a twist. If you click anywhere in the photo it selects some pixels as you would expect from magic wand BUT if left-click and hold, then as you move your mouse it continuously adds to selection.

So, you need to click-hold and drag the mouse. On top of that if you selected some area and you need to select a second area you just click on that second area and start painting the selection without loosing your previous selection. (no need to press CTRL to add to selection). Now if you need to subtract from selection you need to press and hold SHIFT (or CTRL) before doing so.

NOTE> This selection method seems to have a "slow start". What i mean is that it appears that when you first click somewhere nothing happens. If you give it a little time or if you click again and wait a while it will start painting and after that it works fine. I noticed that if you are Zoomed in it helps it start better.

Saying all that, i find this tool very old school and not that helpful. I believe, as MJR said "a simple but effective user-sizeable circular brush", that there should be a Brush for easy selection.

General / Re: good photos, good dense cloud, BAD TEXTURE
« on: September 07, 2020, 11:34:40 AM »

3. You should try using Agisofts new algorithm for computing the high-res model: Instead of building the "dense cloud" go directly to "Build mesh" and use "Source data: depth maps". Please note, that if you reprocess old projects, the depth maps from the dense cloud might still be present- so make sure to uncheck Reuse depth maps (under Build Mesh - Advanced settings). The quality and speed of this approach is a significant improvment over the old algorithm.

Hello Arie,

regarding step 3.

I'm a bit confused on what you said because there are cases that we need to calculate "Dense Cloud" and also have a "Mesh". My question has to do with the "Reuse Depth Maps".

Lets say that i have "Dense Cloud" with High Quality Depth Maps and i now want to build a "Mesh". If i want to use the same quality (High) Depth Maps which are calculated before why not using "Reuse Depth maps"? Are the depth maps calculated in Dense cloud different to the ones calculated in Mesh or you said "do not reuse depth maps" because with the new algorithms you can do even better quality (eg. Ultra) depth maps with the same PC resources, thus better Mesh?

The same applies to old projects that we already have the Depth Maps. If we do not want to change the Quality why not build a Mesh selecting the "source" as Depth Maps and "Reuse Depth maps". Will it not result in the same quality?

General / Re: Basemaps and OpenSSL

Note that all those v.1.0.2u packages say "Not recommended for use".

This is because there are newer versions and this is not the latest. I do not think it will cause any problem because i use it as we speak with no problems at all.

It would be great if we had the option "Apply to selected faces" in Mesh Refinement as we already have it in Decimate Mesh & Smooth Mesh.

When this Basemap feature first introduced in Metashape I installed OpenSSL v.1.0.2.u (Both 32bit & 64bit). Restart PC and it works like a charm.

Until now there are many different versions out there but i never tried them. For me v.1.0.2.u works and i do not want to mess with that.

You can find them here (https://slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html) (i used the normal version and NOT the Light ones)
