General / Re: Heightfield base plane
« on: June 08, 2011, 08:52:48 PM »
Just upgraded to last release, great implementation the bounding box that we can rotate !

I imagine red face is the baseplane, correct ?

Is a sensation or the reconstruction and meshing is faster ?

Meow

Hello Meow,

The option to select the base plane for the Height-field geometry reconstruction method will be included in the next update. It will be defined by the orientation of the reconstruction volume bounding box.

I doubt that built-in support for bas-relief processing can be included in the near future, but thanks for a nice suggestion anyway.

With best regards,

General / Can someone with good pc please process this job for me ?
« on: May 19, 2011, 09:15:00 AM »
Hi, I have a little-big problem.

here the job http://www.gatto.com/piaz.zip

I started the job yesterday evening and this morning yhe PC was rebooted (i don't know the reason, maybe a creash or win update ..) the problem is that I have to machine this job today and I need the model asap but my pc is too slow and on the same one I have to work with CAD/CAM ,,, :(

Can someone with a powerful pc please process the job for me ? I need smooth, high quality at 1.000.000 vertex and orto texture

I've ordered new parts for faster pc, but it's not still completed to run ...

many thanxs to everyone that can help me sending back some way psz file !

Meow

BTW I am regular registered user of the software

Is it possible to have the dialog asking for texture before the one of the mesh reconstruction ?
This way I can launch PS at evening and at next morning I have the job finished.

Otherway i have to confirm and wait for texture.

Thanx,

Hi Dimitry,

sorry fo late answer.

My main use is artistic, I recover from reality 3d model and I CNC machine them. Many times when recovering a model a different base plane is needed in order to have a "quite ready to bas relief" model because the view I need is not one the program decide or I need a small view adjustement to hide non well reconstructed parts.

Look the jpgs, the one according the base plane shows holes and defects (not enough data) the one oriented is much better, no defects and more centrality to Jesus.

Actually I export the mesh and with many passages into different programs I get the result, my bas relief.

Interesting will be to have a "bas relief" processing into your program, actually I bas relief with "cage editing" inside Rhino but require time and results are not even the best.

As you know the creation of a bas relief from a 3d scene in not a simple compression on Z axis but quite more complex, please have a look here http://jgt.akpeters.com/papers/cignonimontaniscopigno97/ and here http://web4.cs.ucl.ac.uk/staff/t.weyrich/projects/relief/relief.pdf to undertand what I mean.

Thanxs fo considering also artistic/cnc use of the program.

Hi Gatto,

do you know that you can export a depthmap&normalmap of a photoview by rightclicking on the photo in the workspace window? Maybe that helps you already a bit.
I guess that this would be an helpful option for orthphoto export too.

Jan

Jan, thanx fot tip, I'll test it !  :)

Feature Requests / Export 3d model as heigtfield raster
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:05:55 AM »
For artistic use is very used to work on greyscale heightfield raster.

This because many jobs are 3 axis works and with any raster editor is possible to smooth, clean, add, cut, scale join split the scan.

White = highest Z and black lowest.

Will be a great thing to have the possibility to export the heightfield once mesh is cleaned and correctly oriented according the desired view.

At least a z-buffer view button with "capture to file the screen" will be a great help.

Thanx,

During mesh cleaning will be usefull to have a "freehand" selection tool like a smooth polyline to select and cutout the desired part.

I fount very fast to clean up mesh in PS instead of other programs (Rhino, Meshlab, Artcam ..)

Something like a small "sculturing tool" to smooth and repair quickly yhe mesh will be a great tool for artistic need as mine.

Thanxs,

General / Running multiple istances of Photoscan - nice error
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:46:44 PM »
I've runned 4 istances of PS because they where small jobs and I was curious to see the speed.

Nice error, the result in one istance was a "mix" between other 2 !

It appears that first aligned set is shared by other.

Nobody experienced this ?

General / Re: Way to follow with small models?
« on: May 08, 2011, 09:33:39 AM »
Use a tripod, use more depth of field (close the iris), use low ISO as possible, shot in bouncing light zone, no flash, avoid reflecting objects (if the object is reflective, paint it or cover it with talc and remove excess vibrating it) use good macro optics and good reflex, shot with all settings to zero (shotting profiles), use remore shotting or auto timer to avoid vibrations due to the hand.

Small objects is same as big ones, understand that to recognize details 3 shots are needed, spent time with only 3 pics to understand the process.

This one is a small model, please note the texturized print under the object to help program to align pics.

and here the 3d model

General / Re: Stereo vs. Mono photos - and difference ?
« on: May 08, 2011, 09:18:19 AM »
I have both a canon reflex and Fuji 3D w3.

I tested the w3 instead of eos 40D and I must confirm that reflex is much better.

Mpo are opened as 2 JPGs and processed same way as ordinary JPGs

W3 fit the need where you cannot shot with tripod, example churchs, bas relief shops and all that situation where is barely legal to shot pictures, example graveyards, here in Italy they are full of interesting subjects ...

Quality in not so bad and results are acceptable for my need (cnc machining)

Capture the preference screen, paste and save as JPG, load into the project and disable it.

Not the maximum but a way to save and reopen parameters.  ;)

« on: May 07, 2011, 11:07:09 PM »
Thanks Thomas,

I know I can edit PDF, my question was near a request to developers to put a field in "settings" in order to customize that string avoiding us a second step.

If I send a preview of a 3d model to someone, I prefer to to put my own link/credits instead of the one of the developers that appears as a watermark on the job.
