is there also a way to rotate the bounding box ?

Thanks,

Maybe solved !

upraged from 4 to 8 GB ram it works !

Tested also with or without CL, no difference, RAM appears to be the problem.

Many thanks for the tip.

Hi Gatto,

with your settings
69 seconds to align (threshold on 40 000 points)
Reconstruction (smooth, High, 20 000 000, 0, 5) 2590 s
Texturing (Adaptive ortho + average + 8000x8000 after decimating to 4 000 000 faces) 1300 s
Total 1 hour 6 minutes

My settings version 1
69 seconds to align (threshold on 40 000 points)
Reconstruction (height field, medium, High, 20 000 000, 0, 5) 144 s
Texturing (Adaptive ortho + average + 8000x8000) 67 s
Total: 4 minutes 40 seconds

My settings version 2
69 seconds to align (threshold on 40 000 points)
Reconstruction (height field, high, High, 20 000 000, 0, 5) 1041 s

Cheers,

Geert

Thanks Geert, I need to upgrade my pc asap !

Hi Gatto,

I processed you data set on my PC (Intel i7 980X, 24 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 580) and everything went smoothly. I did not use your project file but started all over to be sure everything was done well. I used both your parameters (see screenshot) as well as the height field reconstruction method. Are you sure that your amount of RAM is not limiting you when using these settings?

Cheers,

Geert

Just ordered 2x4GB banks, as they arrive I'll try again.

BTW how long does it take on you pc ?

try see here if money are NOT so big problem http://www.evga.com/forums/tt.aspx?forumid=64 and you can start from around 1000 EUR, absolutly basic config....

So i need to assemble the pc.

This MB http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=270-WS-W555-A2&family=Motherboard Family&series=All Motherboards&sw=5 support 2 cpu, they say, can you please tell me how to complete the pc with video cards, ram CPUs, HD in order to havePhotoscan running faster ? I usually work with 20-25 photos (my main job is to reverse low relief in order to machine them into wood or stone).

Thanks for support.

General / PhotoScan Computer clustering ?
« on: April 30, 2011, 09:50:41 AM »
Hi, is there some hope to have PhotoScan running in MPI mode using MPICH2  http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/ in order to cluster many computers and speed up the job on huge works ?

This will avoid money waste for supercomputers and can allow us to use many "acceptable price" PCs, also overriding the limit of one CPU that, as i know, for i7 is real.

i5 is becoming cheaper, and many i5 connected by lan can be a good solution, IMO.

Same problem, actually I try to identify the inacceptable photos deleting the suspected ones and realigning. Usually the problematic ones are the one with very low angle one from each other.

Selecting a part of point cloud and having corresponding photo highlighted will be a great time saving.

Hi Gatto,

you can look at another page of Agisoft:
http://www.agisoft.ru/products/photoscan/performance/

I'm no pro, but with 3000$, I would by something like this:

a i7-980X hexacore processor

search a motherboard which can handle 24 GB of RAM and buy 24 GB of RAM

buy 2 GeForce GTX 480 graphic cards given that two of those fit into your motherboard into your motherboard

Hi Junk,

probably 2 geforce in Crossfire can speedup a lot the meshing operation, I was serching info about the possibility to use a multiprocessor motherboard with Seven 64 but I'm not a guru and I discover quite nothing.

Ram is really so important for the program? Actually I have a i5 with 4GB and does not appear to swap to disk a lot but what I see is that cpu fan run at maximum speed ..

General / 40% Reconstructing mesh ... hang
« on: April 25, 2011, 10:35:02 PM »
Second time it happens, total time counter is running, remaining time is absent, 40% recontructing mesh hang ... I waited for half an hour but nothing. Both times I was on smooth - medium.

If you press Pause timer still work, if you press Cancel a dialog ask confirm but after yes timer still work and cancel become gray.

Killing the task from taskmanager works, but system remain busy, as the program was still working.

Only solution is to reboot, maybe there is some process to kill ?

Why not introducing an automatic progressive save so we can pass files not working to you for debug ?

Bug Reports / .CR2 import strange colors
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:14:27 PM »
Hi, importing CR2 raw from Canon 40D I see the picture with dominant magenta and times are longer than JPGs, is this normal ?

Here a sample http://www.gatto.com/IMG_9123.CR2

Can be useful to use CR2 to avoid DPP processing to jpg or maximum quality JPG is the same as CR2 ?
