General / Re: Jello effect in Orthomosaic generated for Micasense Altum
« on: August 29, 2023, 04:59:25 PM »
this is all from memory so some of the names/places of things might be a bit off!

right click on the affected part of the orthomosaic and select 'open image' (i think this was available in 1.8.5). then you will see which image was used to generate this part of the orthomosaic. you will probably/hopefully find that for whatever reason it didn't choose the best image for that part, i.e. too far away or at an oblique angle.

to fix it, draw a polygon around the affected area (turning on seamlines can help to see the extent of the area covered by this suboptimal image) and right click on the polygon and choose assign images. then select the image that should have been used. once happy, right click on the orthomosaic in the chunk explorer (i forgot what it's called exactly) and choose regenerate to apply your changes and blend the images together nicely.

if there is no better image to choose from in the 'assign images' window, then either you didn't get a good image of that area, or some of your images are misaligned.

Bug Reports / Re: Details view sort by column
« on: March 30, 2023, 11:40:40 AM »
Sorry, I should have been a bit more rigorous before reporting it as a bug.

Hopefully I'll soon get a chance to pin it down, and try to reproduce it on a smaller project that I can share.

Bug Reports / Details view sort by column
« on: March 29, 2023, 11:10:42 AM »
Metashape Pro 2.01 64 (15986) on Windows 10

I had noticed this in previous versions too and assumed it would get fixed eventually but it appears not yet!

It appears that sorting photos by clicking on the column headers in the photo pane does not work if certain filters have been applied. It seems to be an issue if "filter by point" was used, on either the sparse cloud or mesh, or "filter by marker", but when using "filter by tie points" it does appear to work as expected.

I noticed because I wanted to sort by 'enabled' after filtering photos by a point on the model surface, to then further filter the disabled photos, but they were always still disordered. So then I tried some other columns and experienced the same. It seems like clicking the column header sometimes has no effect on the order, and sometimes it will just reverse the current incorrect order.

I think 'Tools -> Tie Points -> Build Point Cloud...' is what you are looking for

Feature Requests / Re: multiple tabs for same data type
« on: November 21, 2022, 02:52:54 PM »
With images you can have multiple tabs (right-click the image in Photos pane and 'Open in New Tab'

Then you can right-click the new image tab and 'Move to Other Tab Group' so you have two images open and visible at once.

It's not perfect but it helps.

Feature Requests / Re: better support for rigid camera rig

+100 8)
Another +100 please

Would be great to be able to export the calculated slave offset and import as reference in future projects, rather than have to type all those number in each time!

I'm using a stereo rig for close up handheld scanning and being able to import the camera offsets would allow me to get my scans scaled properly without worrying about markers and scalebars.

Alternatively, being able to select a master camera and create a scalebar between it and the slave would achieve the same thing for me, but this doesn't seem to be supported.

If there is an existing python solution I'd be happy with that, and otherwise I I'll try to figure one out myself!

Camera Calibration / Re: Adaptive camera model or calibration groups
« on: August 01, 2022, 12:25:10 PM »
Is there a way to select or sort photos by speed and direction of drone flight so that each group can get different rolling shutter corrections? I can't even find a way to view the metadata that shows speed

I don't think so, except maybe through python scripting, but what might help is that you can select photos using the 3D/Model tab or normal photos pane, and then open the camera calibration window, and any photos that were selected before will now be selected in the list at the bottom of the calibration window, though you may have to scroll down to find them.

Still doesn't help you filter by speed or direction, but it may be easier to identify and select these photos intuitively in the 3D view before you go into camera calibration.

In the lower right of the 'Camera Calibration' window is a list of all the photos in each group. You can select the photos you want to move to a new group, right click and select 'Create Group'.

It's been a while since I dealt with importing masks, but I think you could create a black and white mask image to mask out the edges, and import it to all of your nadir images.

As I remember, masked parts of images are not used in the orthomosaic unless there is no other image covering that area, in which case the algorithm ignores the masks rather than leave a gap in the orthomosaic.

but IMHO if you use the scans with reference marked with high accuracy then I do not see the utility of quick layout script....

Some TLS scans may not get aligned at all if they do not get sufficient tie points to other scans and images.

I guess the script ensures that these 'orphan' scans still end up in the result and in the right place.

Unfortunately this is not often enough part of my workflow for me to know it inside out yet, but it does seem that given that the discussion is ongoing it would benefit from some clarity from above. Part of the reason I don't do it more often is that I'm not confident of what the outcome will be.

Making the selection of markers for manually tying the photos to the scans part of the official workflow with proper tools would be huge. I use Cyclone for TLS and take a lot of time looking at the data in 3D to choose my reference points as accurately as possible. I'm almost always working with buildings, so I'm looking at windows and cornices etc, to get my points correct to within a couple of mm, which is not possible currently in Metashape just by putting a marker on a depth map in '2D'.

General / Re: butterfly Mesh Full Of Holes
« on: December 15, 2021, 03:30:24 PM »
I would suggest to duplicate your chunk, and disable photos of the 'top' surface in one chunk, and bottom surface in the other chunk, then build mesh in each chunk (you shouldn't get any holes that way) and then enable the 'show aligned chunks' button to overlay the two meshes and check for any intersections between top and bottom, which could be the result of slight misalignment of images or to do with translucency of the wings (i.e. maybe you are actually reconstructing the subsurface!?). Any intersections would cause Metashape to decide a hole was preferable to an inside out intersecting mesh (I guess).

I'm not sure if 'show aligned chunks' will work if the chunks are only duplicated and not explicitly 'aligned', but you can align them without causing any change in their actual alignments by using the align chunks tool, and aligning 'by cameras' which will be identical since you duplicated the chunk.

Feel free to send me a link too as I do enjoy playing!

This link seems to work:

I just modified the current 1_7_5 link to 1_7_1.

General / Re: Processing a massive underwater photoset without GPS
« on: October 30, 2021, 01:39:02 PM »
So...
Alexey...
  • For Sequential, do the filenames matter??? Or folders?
  • When is using Estimated for a 2nd run of Align Photos worth doing?
  • Are their any other tips for Aligning these UW photos with no GPS data?
Thanks!

I'd also love to know more about sequential preselection.

My guess would have been that choosing sequential additionally ensures that sequential pairs are always matched/compared, when they may have not been picked up by generic preselection, rather than excluding any non-sequential pairs.

That doesn't make complete sense though, because I would think that 99% of all photos taken by everyone with any hint of method to their madness would take one photo after another in an overlapping sequence, in which case it would make sense for metashape to do this regardless. And as the number of sequential pairs only increases linearly with the number of photos, there's hardly any processing time penalty for doing it.

Also my guess doesn't make sense because if it was additional, then you should be able to choose this in addition to estimated and source reference preselection types, rather than only being able to choose one of three.

Anyway, my guesses are no use to anyone, including myself, so I'd love to know what it's doing really.
