Feature Requests / Spherical targets
« on: August 03, 2020, 08:59:30 PM »
Hello, Agisoft:
Spherical targets are widely used in terrestrial laser scanning. They are convenient due to de fact that a sphere looks the same from any pont of view and does not require being orented towards the sensor like planar targets do.
I guess it would be really usefull if Metashape where able to detect a sphere centre point automatically as it does with circular targets. It would help laser scanning works to be co-registered with photo scans.
Unlike planar circles, spheres always look round enough in a picture regardless the angle of view, so a circular feature detector, should work fine, even when it is not surounded by a black crown like in non coded circular targets.
Please keep improving Metashape by adding funtions for a better integration with TLS.
Best regards

Hi Jaume: why do you wnat shapes rasterized onto individual photos? oe why not onto the orthomosaic? the second is an easy to do task, but superimposing on the photos is kinda dificult. For example keep in mind that a straight line that you draw on the model needs to be distorted (applying radial distortion) to be rasterized onto photos accurately, or a line that is not lying on terrain, will show some offset when reprojected on a photo.

Are you 100% confident that you have set up rtk reference coordinates correctly? You might do a cross check by doing PPK of your dataset and see if embeded geotags are consistent with PPK results.
In my experience Metashape is not always as good as competitors in alignment of projects without any ground control point (direct referencing) . It is sad for me to say so, but I've found it in a few cases.
If you want good results, you need to calibrate your camera in a very well controlled project and then use found lens parameters as precalibrated.

It is hard to predict and also to know dense cloud density (or average points spacing, if you like) but once it is created it is easy to filter to a desired spacing. So you could be able to subsample yor cloud to a value that is fine for you... yeah, it soulds like climbing to the top of a mountain and then descend to a desired altitude instead of climbing directly to that point, but... I'm sorry, no straight path in this case as far as I know.

well, you can try now select dense points by mask and crop.
select by colour in your very case could also have good results.
Good luck

Boundaries are used only at export time, so what if you export the dem limited to your boundary and then re-import it on the same chunk?
I guess it would work as you want.
Kind regards

How were the annotations written on raw images?

Select photos in reference window and choose clear locations.

Touché! too long story. I do it a lot, sorry.
Just to top it off. I like the indistinct use of several words for the same as a sort of, literary license. Like when you write about a cathedral and try to use other words to avoid repetition: the temple...., the building..., the monument...

Hello Eponymous:
Photo and camera can be used to mean the same thing, but  if you want to make a distinction, when it comes to photogrammetry, a photo is a two dimensional thing while a camera means here a photo linked to the lens and camera body together forming a complex thing which is three dimensional, that is called camera for language economy, just for the same reason we say "photo" instead of "photography".
So in the program they use indistinctly the two words because a photo without lens parameters associated is not even something you would be able to use. Just imagine that you remove your lens from your camera and press the trigger button.  The light will hit the sensor and you will get something you can call photo even if it is a blurred likely burnt mess or perhaps an invaluable piece of art that someone could even pay for, but that photo would never be called a camera here.
So "photo" is not enough word while calling "camera" to a photo is like to borrowing the name of the device that produces it. Well it is perhaps something you can dislike metonymy, but what if I remind you that "camera" means actually "room" in latin?

This annoying dialog has already been made optional in 1.6.3 Thanks, Agisoft for listening us.

In my opinion the built in measurement tools is almost unusable but for very rough and fast queries, the measurement resolution changes inconsistently from one measurement to another, measurements are not persistent, you cannot take several measurements at once without doing accumulative, etc... I never use this tool. However, with regard to your question, yes, filtering by selection will somehow replace one long term missing feature yet standard in plenty of programs: clipping boxes.
Also, your complain about not being able to move to another place during measurement is not right. You actually can pan, rotate and zoom to another place from one measurement end to the other:
ctrl+shift+left button down+drag for view rotation (also works with al+shift+left button down+drag)
shift+left button down+drag up and down for zoom in/out (the mouse wheel is also working)
ctrl+left button down+drag for panning (also works with alt)

My suggestion for accurate measurements it is to use scale bars and get distances from estimated values of distance. An alternative is drawing lines and later retrieve their length by means of the shape measurement tool.

Hello: I'm regularly offering online training, (I've worked with collision documentation specialists too). drop me a mail and provide contact details so we can discuss about options.

Thank you soooo much!
Best regards and health!

PLEASE Agisoft, remove tha dialog or make it optional, it is unbearable as is. Imagine after having stereo-digitized 22372 shapes. I had to downgrade to previous version to not commit  suicide.
Also, notice that the current way of rendering a point (shape) easily turns screen into a mess when there are plenty of them. You should enable cleaner rendering mode for displaying vectors in all views. (colored, please)
Also, please enable a reasonable way to toggle view of markers attached to shapes. they become totally intrusive and incompatible with visualization. What if you show them only on selected shape/s?
Best regards
