Hi a.denisov,

you can use markers for that and give them a high accuracy.

General / Re: About Camera projection center in Metashape
« on: November 10, 2022, 10:28:56 AM »
Yes the camera projection center O is the "pinhole" in the camera pinhole model, where the principal point H' is the base point of O in the sensor area (with it's offfets Cx and Cy to the sensor center).

General / Re: Agisoft Metashape 2.0.0 pre-release
« on: October 19, 2022, 09:45:15 AM »
Dear Agisoft team,

during the installation of version 2.0 our former installed version 1.8.4 is removed. When I try to reinstall version 1.8.4, I get an error message that it isn't possible to install an older version.
After deinstallation of version 2.0 and a new installation of version 1.8.4 in a extra folder named  'Metashape Pro_1_8_4' and after that a new installation of version 2.0 in an own folder 'Metashape Pro_2_0' version 1.8.4 is nevertheless removed again.
(B.t.w. the even older version 'Metashape Pro_1_7_1' , also installed in an own folder, isn't removed during installation of version 2.0.)

Could you please help me to install both versions side by side, one for production and one for testing the new functions?

Best regards,

Kiesel

Yes it is possible to use different cameras/lenses and it is practice in full body scanners to mix 2 or more sorts of cameras. Metashape can handle that by automatic camera grouping in one chunk, so no need to work with multiple chunks.

It ignores the steady background feature points of the room , so it should help as long as the relation between camera and background is not changing.

It probably helps to add a photo of the background only (the empty room).

Hi Alexx,

for turntable case one can tick the option 'Exclude stationary tie points' in 'Align Photos' dialog. The camera and the background have to be stationary for that.

The tutorial by Agisoft for turntable workflow might help too:

Hi cyrilp,

in sparse cloud, dense cloud and mesh you can right click and then choose 'filter photos by point' and get the filtered photos which correspond to that point. But that says nothing about which one is used for the texture.
Even you can disable all photos until one and generate a new texture, that's probably not what you want.

Hi JJ,

Quote
right now i use a Samyang 7.5mm manual focus lens on a micro four thirds body.  i just set the lens to infinity and pretty much all images are sharp but i avoid moving in closer to the subject

i'd like to change to an auto focus lens to have more flexibility and was looking at the Panasonic 8mm

I think that's not a good idea to work with autofocus instead of fixed focus, because this way you change camera intrinsics a little bit for every shot, so your camera calibration get worse. Generally fisheyes have a very wide depth of field. I would set the focus to something like your middle distance (hyperfocal value) and tape this distance down and not to infinity b.t.w..

I don't know how well Metashape can handle different fisheye projections (stereographic, equidistant, equisolid, orthographic) and if there are any problems at all to a specific fisheye projection.

General / Re: Non-coded cross targets automatic detection failure
« on: September 21, 2022, 08:53:44 AM »
3DWinter,

I use higher tolerance values (these are dimension less) if not all markers are detected at the first time for standard values (2). But before I use any higher tolerance value I erase all already detected markers, because otherwise I get double markers with the same number in the marker list.
The maximum residual is only avaiable for non-coded targets (and not for coded targets). This value is in pixel and to my understanding it means the tolerated maximal residual of the detectected circle center or cross section.

Hope it helps

3DWinter,

it works quit well unless your targets are not too small and you haven't structures which looks similar to targets, for example cobblestones.

In another post Alexey has written "The size of non-coded targets actually are not so critical (at least there are no max limits), but I suggest to have at least 4-5 pix radius for them." But perhaps this was meant for the type circle and you have to double this for the non-coded cross.

You can also use targets of different sizes in one project to overcome the size limitation.

General / Re: Swapping Images After Alignment
« on: August 17, 2022, 09:42:37 AM »
Hi RoryG,

should be possible, because this is the normal workflow when you work with pattern projection by using the photos with pattern projection for alignment and then replacing those photos with identical named photos without pattern projections located in another folder.

You'll find all predefined views here: see attachment. You can hit the numpad numbers without using the menu as you already explored.

General / Re: Lens not detecting chess board

Hi David,

Quote
We have images of a chess board pattern, however the program is not picking the pattern out. This is likely because the board is too far away from the camera - despite good image clarity.

you can play with the tolerance value and maximum residual value in the 'Detect Markers' menu  for 'Cross (non coded)' targets and eventually use the 'Ignore masked image regions' to avoid detecting markers in unwanted regions.

can i use calibration information from a different zoom? (I suspect not...)

Not a good idea.

Hi Marina,

perhaps this is something for you (sorry not in Metashape):

http://www.jpe-innovations.com/downloads/Fit-sphere-through-points.pdf

It seems that the free Cloud Compare can already do that:
