The "Build point cloud" step is very very slow in this version and in 1.8.5 beta. Takes ages to build kernels to all available eGPUs and all the processing is very slow. A Point Cloud that takes 69 seconds to build in 1.8.4, in this version, after 3 minutes, is still in 14% and stalled.

Cheers

PS: In the case of the 1.8.5 (15259) the depth maps stage does not pass 8% and Metashape can only be closed used "Force Quit".

I follow Paulov in the suggestions and in the idea that this new version can be a game changer in the merging of LIDAR/Photogrammetry.
The features that are also welcome and work very well are the DEM editing features. Very simple implementation and very effective result.
I've already corrected an old survey that had several water pools in the middle using this feature. Very handy.

General / Re: Dense Point Cloud Gaps
« on: July 01, 2022, 01:30:10 AM »
Hi Alexey

I've been testing this issue a lot and it seems to be linked to objects moving around (a few persons).
Today I've masked them all and things did improve a bit. These latest versions seem to be too sensitive to moving objects.
I've also increased the Rolling Shutter correction to the most aggressive one, so I cannot filter which was the biggest culprit. Probably the two.
I'll send you the dataset that I'm using by email via a PCloud link.
Best regards

Hi Alexey

I'm experiencing the same problem as James in this latest 1.8.4 beta.
The survey was carried out with crossed stripes (crossed grid pattern) so overlap is not a problem.
However, sometimes when there is people or things moving around, some masking helps a lot. These latest Metashape versions seem to be too sensitive to random object moving. In a survey I've masked 4 persons that were moving around and things improved a lot.
Best regards

Hi Alexey

Taking advantage of some notes suggested in some messages above, it would be interesting to create a detailed manual about tweaks, their function and respective parameters. Some are extremely interesting and useful and the syntax is unknown to most users. I apologize if this information already exists and I am the one who does not know where to access it.

General / Re: Metashape 1.8.X not using all available GPUs
« on: January 25, 2022, 09:59:41 PM »
Hi Alexey

You are right. I've forgot that decision. Harsh one...
OpenCL is not working, as you might remember, because is messes the 2 GPU's and only considers one. The other one is totally skipped, rendering it useless.
I'll try to keep a 1.7.8 version handy.
Meanwhile I've build another machine, with an AMD 6800XT and an AMD6900XT, also using MacOS and it's a lot faster that my previous setup.
Best regards.

General / Metashape 1.8.X not using all available GPUs
« on: January 24, 2022, 06:43:47 PM »
Hi

Today I've opened version 1.8.0 and, contrary to vs 1.7.6, the latest version cannot see all the available GPUs.
Cuda is enabled. Version 1.7.6 is behaving normally.
See attached screen captures.

General / Re: Dense cloud with Sky noise? How to solve?
« on: January 02, 2022, 10:55:49 PM »
Great and lucky to solve the problem with 0-1 interval  :)
In harsher cases, you can use slightly higher values. Usually I do not go over 4 or 5 to avoid losing details.
This is a very useful feature!!

Try to filter the dense cloud "by confidence" and choose all points from 0 to 3. It should remove most of those "Sky" artifacts. Select and eliminate those points while filtering and then reset the filter.

This version (1.8.0 build 13354) crashes while importing a points file in .las format, exported from a dense point cloud created by itself but segmented in tiles. Prior versions work without any problem. Submitted the crash report using the build in crash reporter app.

General / Re: investing in mapping UAV phantom 4 pro or mavic 3 pro
« on: November 20, 2021, 08:01:00 PM »
If you are in Europe (EU space), be aware of the CE conformity. Every Dji drone, if it will not be considered retro-compatible with this approval norm, will not be usable for work from January 2023 and beyond.
I use both a Phantom 4 Pro, a Phantom 4 RTK and a Mavic 2 Pro for the purpose you are asking and they all perform very well.
I have not done any test with Mavic 3 yet but, when supported by flight planning software and avoiding the Zoom features, I don't see any reason to not perform well either.

Are you using any geoid model for altimetry transformation?

I suppose that the latest M1's are not yet there for this kind of processing. Maybe Metashape can be fine tuned for dealing with Metal.
This is the main reason why I've bought an Intel MacBook Pro 16 last January, fundamentally to be able to use external GPU's. This setup, with the internal AMD 5600 and AMD 6800 XT eGPU's is incredible fast.

Hi Alexey

Just sent you a small set by email from Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced.

Hi Alexey

fjgarciam made the question I was going to ask too. I have thermal images from H20T and from Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced and, in both cases, are not recognized as R-JPEG images.
They are, indeed, mounted as multi camera images but both RGB and Thermal images appear as regular JPEG's.
Cheers
