Face and Body Scanning / Re: camera stand hardware
« on: November 19, 2015, 05:19:50 AM »
Thanks FLuca for the response. In the end I've got my cameras clamped to a light stand. But ideally I want to use a C-stand, although they're quite heavy but it helps keep the cameras stable.

My setup at the moment is:

- 1x 360 motorized stand
- green screen for background (clipped to 2 C-stands)
- 4x soft box lights, 2 for green screen, 2 for subject (3200w setup, I find these aren't enough light!)
- super clamps to mount cameras to stand (also had to get mini ball head mounts, and 1/4" male to 1/4" male screws to attach ball head to clamp)
- Vello, remote triggers for each camera (had to purchase additional sync cables, some of which are still screwy)

So I manually trigger the cameras as the subject rotates, then manually remove all the memory cards and transfer to a computer for processing. It isn't too bad at the moment..

for a cyclo, I think green is better.

Agreed. I've been getting best results with a green background. I thought I could get away with the white background (which also had some picture frames), but it caused lots of issue when trying to auto mask

Want to put the 3d model somewhere where it can be available? I'd say this type of scan it would be easy to grab the edges and extrude down, then cap off the whole thing. Might need to do a bit of patching to the surface to make sure it's all water tight. I know this can be done in 3dsmax - maybe in something free like Blender it would also be possible.

What are the stands called that folks are using to clamp cameras onto? Looking for a rough part list as I might invest in a 5 camera setup that all attach to a single stand.

Thanks

Here's a dropbox folder with a few goodies from my experiments, https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z5scccslzfibj28/AABz1JK3sqibicvEaQ8YkHvra?dl=0

I'm working with a set of gopro's, trying to figure out how many I'd need to get a capture. I'm not expecting anything amazing - just hoped to get enough to possibly mesh the people moving throughout a space. Processing the gopro video footage into frames isn't working - but I am able to get something from the photos from the gopros.

Not sure if doubling my setup will help, or if the quality of the cameras is just too poor to get a decent capture.

Any thoughts?

this blog post eludes more to what I'm trying to get at - http://www.quitenice.co/blog/2015/7/25/captured-virtual-reality

So I'm testing out the demo version of Photoscan Pro, a few comments as I try to work out 4d processing:

- I wish the play button turned into the pause, instead of having the pause as a second button next to play. In the Timeline.
- Large amounts of photos (1,000+), delay in loading/previewing. Maybe it's just that their preview images haven't loaded and that isn't stopping the start of processing? I haven't tested it fully. But it would be nice to get some sort of background progress graphic/animation of the loading/caching.
- When you stop camera matching, is it possible to review the progress it made? instead of canceling the whole batch? I wanted to test a 30 second capture. But I'm afraid if it only gets halfway before I run out of patience, I won't be able to stop processing and review the 15 seconds that were matched. [I also need to look at network processing to help speed that up!]
- How important is EXIF data? I'm taking video feeds and exporting them into image sequences. Would there be a downside to this?

I'll follow up as I keep tinkering

Thanks!

There are easy ways to mask though, especially if you're using a uniform background and a turntable...

What way is that? I'm considering purchasing a motorized turn table so I'd need to start looking into the masking abilities for Photoscan

haha, funny you should mention pointing a really wide lens at a monitor...   ::)

it's strange, the Camera type is greyed out for me. I can't change Frame to Fisheye :(

"lens calibration options before processing"

this is under Tools / Camera Calibration ?

Or is this in the Agisoft Lens app? I load photos of the grid using the fisheye lens, set Calibration to 'fisheye', process them, and then save the profile.

Then in Photoscan I load the fisheye photos of the project I'm shooting. Tools / Camera Calibration / Load, but the file created in the lens app fails to load.

What am I doing wrong?

This is sweet! Are they any specific steps that need to be taken to get a fish-eye lens to process correctly? My initial test with a few fish-eye pictures showed a facade with an overall bend to it...

+1 for importing point clouds

Only for me I'd be looking for other import options, ie .abc, .fbx, & .obj

It looks like it worked correctly with this other scene. Thanks for the prompt response :)

I'll pop back in here if I run into any other issues.

General / Photoscan Standard - object orientation?
« on: March 18, 2014, 07:29:56 PM »
Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find any answers in my searching

Is it possible to do basic object rotating/orienting before export? I see there's a button to rotate the object, but does something need to be done afterward to commit this to the export?

I thought I had rotated my object to be oriented, but the FBX brought the model in at what i think was the odd angle it has originally meshed at.

thoughts?

I'm working with photos of an interior and wanted to try and align the floor roughly with the virtual ground - I usually do it in my 3d program afterwards, but I thought if I could get it done in photoscan and the cameras might be usable later.

thanks
