General / Re: Fisheye lens, which one
« on: January 01, 2024, 01:34:07 AM »
I am specifically interested in fisheye lenses, not rectilinear wide angle lenses.  I have experience the equivalent of 16mm wide angle lens. Use will be inside the ends of boat hulls.

General / Fisheye lens, which one
« on: December 30, 2023, 08:03:15 PM »
There are multiple lower cost fisheye lenses available from brands including Samyang/Rokinon, Laowa Venus Optical, TTArtisan, 7artisans, Meike and AstrHori. Differences include field of view and stated focal length. I understand there are also differences in the details of the fisheye projection.

What have been experiences using fisheye lenses with Metashape? Which lens? What size sensor (full frame, crop, MFT, etc)? How well did photo alignment work?

Bug Reports / Textured mesh not visible first click
« on: April 17, 2021, 05:07:36 AM »
Metashape Standard Version 1.7.2 build 12070

Sometimes need to click twice to view a textured mesh model.

Working in a project which has chunks with textured mesh mesh models
Select a different chunk
Drop down menu for viewing mesh models and click on Model Textured - nothing is visible
Click on Model Textured again and textured mesh model is now visible

If anything other than textured mesh model is viewed and then textured model option is selected, the textured mesh model is visible with one click

The Windows X64 installer file for 1.4.2 downloaded as a .txt file, not as a .msi file. I changed the file type to .msi and the installer successfully ran.

General / Re: Ultra wide lens choice
« on: November 17, 2016, 06:14:55 PM »
I've gotten excellent results with Photoscan using a Canon EF-S 10-22 mm zoom lens on a "crop" sensor Canon camera (16-35 mm full frame equivalent). On a couple of boat projects there was very limited space around and under the boats and capturing the boats would not have been feasible without the very wide angle. Photoscan determined the lens distortion coefficient and corrected the lens distortion in the same manner it does for any lens.

Obviously the Canon lens isn't an option to use with on your Nikon camera. Before purchasing the Canon lens I considered the the other lens mentioned above. I would go with one with 11 mm minimum focal length rather than 16 mm. The difference in angle of view is huge. Also my recollection is one has more "complex" distortion which might be more difficult for Photoscan to completely correct.

Computer locks up when attempting to trim a mesh with 52 million faces.
No problems creating the mesh or decimating down to 5 million faces.

PhotoScan Standard Edition Version 1.2.0 build 2158 (64bit)
Windows 7
Intel i7-3770 3.40 GHz
16GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7770 GPU 2GB memory
AMD driver 14.501.1003.0

Added:

Updated graphics driver to latest version from AMD website 15.200.1062.1004

With the large mesh the system appears to be moving data in and out of C drive which is a 100 GB SSD with 18.3 GB free. System has two other large internal drives, both of which have lots of free space.

Trimming the decimated 5 million face mesh works fine.

Just slower than the same machine with a high speed GPU. But it may be faster than some machines with GPU.

General / Re: Workflow with calibrated camera
« on: June 07, 2015, 05:56:26 AM »
Potential reasons the earlier calibration may not be exactly correct for the project photos:

1)  Lens was focused at a much closer distance for the calibration photos than for the project photos. The difference in focusing means lens elements moved relative to each other and/or the sensor. The effective focal length may be slightly different and the distortion may be slightly different.

2)  If the lens has Image Stabilization was IS turned off for both sets of photos? Even if IS was turned off for both sets of photos were the IS elements in exactly the same position for both sets of photos. IS works by the IS elements moving to shift the image on the sensor to counteract camera movement. Unless the elements are in exactly the same position the image will be shifted slightly.

3) Temperature differences might cause lens elements to move slightly.

Currently using the Intel graphics rather than Nvidia for rendering. I will figure out how to use Nvidia graphics.
