General / What's the right workflow for extremely hi res scans?
« on: June 02, 2016, 05:41:47 PM »
Should I build hi and low res ones?  And then bake on low-res one  in external baker?

What is the most straight and simple way?    Should I build several hi res parts separately?

Feature Requests / Depth output based on orto viewport projection
« on: May 19, 2016, 05:43:54 PM »
Current 8 bit depth export for each picture  gives me absolutely nothing .    Would like to have an option to produce a combined depth map preferably  32 bit one  from the top view  for example.    For flat subjects  , ground surfaces.

If it could be  possible without mesh generation  would save some time too

General / What's the impact of modern GPU?
« on: January 21, 2016, 07:34:34 PM »
How much could I expect it work quicker  with something like nvidia gtx980 ti or  TitanX  over   gtx660ti  for example?  Does the memory amount matter?

Does it really do a lot of calculations on gpu at all?

General / Best camera for Photoscan?
« on: January 13, 2015, 05:59:33 PM »
Since Photoscan just needs a sharp, no boke  picture across a frame it probably doesn't need anything too expensive.
So I wonder what camera/optic is the best?    Preferably  something not too big  and bulky.

I guess it should be something with big enough/high iso matrix  for getting sharp pictures of  not so bright subjects  under ambient/ no direct sunlight conditions for getting nice texture without direct shadows.   ( outdoor scanning)

And sharp  not too wide optic, well performing in low light and not wide open aperture, probably no zoom one.

Quick enough for long series without saving pauses.

Should it be  preferably DSLR or maybe M4/3 or  one of those   APS-C  mirrorless cameras.    A kind of price/performance optimum for a specific photometry task?     Is there something on the market currently that could beat all that bulky DSLR for that?

I get very poor and noisy geometry from smartphone pictures and much cleaner from other person  full frame  expensive camera pictures under the  same not so perfect lighting   so I wonder where the true optimum is?

General / What cameras/lenses are preferable for photoscan?
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:37:45 AM »
I tried with  8M cell phone camera and it turned into a mess mostly. Photos didn't match each other or not very good at least.    Same with cheap Canon pont-and-shot.   I tried other person photos of Nikon DSLR camera and it seems that they work better.

Does  it depend on camera or lenses at all or rather way of how pictures were taken?  Amount of noise?  Corner sharpness? Vignetting?  Aperture value?  Barrel distortion?    Maybe a specific camera brand?  I am going to buy a new camera but don't want DSLR actually.   I am looking for a kind of smaller mirrorless camera and would like to be sure it would suite photoscan tasks well.
