General / OBJ Splitting App?
« on: September 06, 2013, 05:28:04 PM »
Hola Amigos, does anyone know of an app that will automatically split an OBJ into equal parts (either by physical size or polygon amount)?  I know of ways to go this manually but could really use something that does it automatically.

Thanks,

Mark

General / Generic Mask
« on: May 09, 2013, 05:33:38 PM »
I need to apply the same mask to every photograph in a project.  Does anyone have a quick workflow for this?

Currently, I'm making one mask, exporting it, and then making copies of that file to match my other filenames.  It gets a little tedious when you've got hundred of photos.

Thanks!

General / Declination and Ground Control
« on: May 09, 2013, 04:56:51 PM »
I realize that Photoscan Pro does not presently use yaw, pitch, and roll angles when calculating photo positions from Ground Control.

Can anyone confirm that Photoscan Pro does use declination (orientation of the photograph relative to north)?

Thanks!

General / Panther Cave
« on: February 28, 2013, 03:39:55 AM »
Hi everyone, please check out my 3D model and animation here:  http://youtu.be/vbmgpKKLMyY

Best viewed in High Definition. Panther Cave, named after the giant panther at the far end of the site, contains Pecos River and Red Linear style pictographic imagery dating back approximately 4,000 years. Figures range in size from less than 6 inches (~10 cm) to over 10 feet (~3 m) in height. The larger Pecos River style figures are the most prominent, and include colorful human- and animal-like figures. The portion of the shelter shown in this model is approximately 130 feet (~40 m) long, 35 feet (~12 m) deep, and 32 (~11 m) in height.

Here is a little animation I made from UAV data collected at Alibates National Monument in the United States:

Feature Requests / Optimize Indicator
« on: February 21, 2013, 05:31:40 AM »
It would be great if "Show Info" could indicate if the point cloud had been optimized or not.  Something like:

Point Cloud
   Points: 249764 of 494327
   Effective overlap: 2.74296
   Reprojection error: 0.609129 (3.53469 max)
   Optimized: Yes

Feature Requests / Export to XAML

Export to XAML format would be great.  This is the 3D format being used in a lot of the newer multi-touch screen tables and the like.

General / Importing cameras into 3DS Max from PhotoScan Pro

Would someone point me in the right direction for importing camera locations that were created in PhotoScan Pro into 3D Studio Max?

Thanks!

General / Macro SfM
« on: December 21, 2012, 11:05:57 PM »
Has anyone had consistent luck creating 3D models of tiny object using a macro lens or a microscope?  The results I get range from awesome to crap and don't seem to be predictable.

Macro photography has an inherently shallow depth of field.  I try and compensate for this by masking those areas out. Is there something else that may be going on that can cause distortion when shooting this way?  I thought the EXIF data might somehow be incorrect when a lens is in Macro mode but that assumption doesn't appear to be right.

Any advice is appreciated,

Mark

Feature Requests / Remove duplicate photos and remove NAs
« on: December 11, 2012, 02:26:54 AM »
I often combine large chunks with several of the same images in them.  This is so I can align the chunks by camera position.  The merged chunk can have a lot of duplicate photographs in it.

I have a sense that these duplicates are using up more memory than just having a single instance of the photo (could be wrong).  I would like to see a "Remove Duplicates" option that would remove photographs with the exactly the same name.  A "Remove non-aligned images" would be super nice too.

Agisoft's listening to users suggestions really sets your software apart.

Thanks,

Mark

General / Star Cave: Guam
« on: December 05, 2012, 03:02:20 AM »
Star Cave is a prehistoric pictograph site on the island of Guam.  In 2008 I spent several days working in the cave recording the rock art.  I recently reprocessed the photos from that work using Photoscan.  You can see the results in a simple animation here:

It came along way from the original Photosynth model:

Feature Requests / Invert selection

It would be great to have an invert selection tool in the Workspace as well as for selection tools of the model window itself.

Thanks!

General / Extremely large projects
« on: October 11, 2012, 03:32:22 PM »
Has anyone developed a work flow for dealing with extremely large projects?

Using chunks I've been able to combine about 6,500 photos into one large project.  The 3D model is of the interior of a limestone cave.  I was hoping to use the bounding box to build geometery in pieces and then combine in Max.  Unfortunately, PhotoScan still runs out of memory with this approach (even when processing a tiny area).

I do not have ground control.

Here is a screen shot:

Any guidance would be awesome!

General / Tracing of prehistoric rock art
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:12:59 PM »
Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice.  I've been creating high resolution 3D models of complex prehistoric rock art found in European caves using PhotoScan.  Now that I've generated my models, I would like to then "trace" the artwork on the 3D model to make it stand out.  Ultimately, I would like to show the shape of the model with only my tracing on top.

The 3D shapes I am working with are extremely complex and it isn't as simple as exporting a flat ortho photo to trace in Photoshop.

Has anyone done anything similar?  Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks,

Mark

General / Depth Maps
« on: September 22, 2012, 04:19:47 PM »
Hola Amigos, I'm working on a large PhotoScan Pro project.  After aligning the model at "High" and building it, I have noticed many of the photos lack depth maps.  The icons appear white. Does this mean those photos are not contributing to the 3D model and can be removed?

Thanks,

Mark
