Just a couple of ideas - Option to Strip built textures from Chunks, useful to reduce .psz file sizes if backup of pre-built texture scene is not available.

..and batch "Align Selected Cameras"

I wish I had some bugs to report ...but latest build is very stable  :)

Hi Agisoft team, I wanted to see if the ability to re-order Chunks in the Workspace might be possible?

Some arrows for up and down, so that what ever Chunk(s) you have selected you can re-order by preference. Handy if you append in chunks from other scenes and want to order them in the workspace. Or able to drag and drop in where you want in the order.

It would be good for single selections and multiple selections also, to be able to move them up or down in the list.

Hello all fellow Agisoft users, I have spoken to Alexey about the idea of a 3DSMax style Gizmo control for Agisoft scenes, specifically for Characters. But I wanted to see if others though it might be useful. This is also useful for buildings, objects and human capture in general.

At the moment there is no real easy way for users to specify custom Chunk Orientation, Position and Scale ready to export for external applications as we currently have no extrinsic calibration data. Also many external application have their own ways and scales for importing, which is a pain.

Such a Gizmo UI control would be so powerful, as it would allow users to set the position in space, the orientation and scale ready to export correctly to any applications. We can then use the various Chunk Alignment tools to re-align other similar chunks or .psz scenes, using markers or camera alignment.

i.e.

At the moment it is very arbitrary, scale can be set using Markers, which is OK but orientation and position is very hard to do. Position impossible I think.

Perhaps the 3 axis (x,y,z) Gizmo control would have known scale sizes for each axis, or we can set it's scale from centre to end points as 1cm, 10 cm, 50cm etc Or we can physically scale the Gizmo in size to match reference in the scene, i.e. markers or known geometry size and the Gizom is set to a certain size like 1cm, 10cm, 50cm etc

Thoughts?

Bug Reports / Remove marker not working.
« on: July 24, 2012, 04:06:52 PM »
If a user right clicks on marker in 2d photograph and selects Remove marker, markers still appears on photograph? should it not be removed entirely? or placed out of the photo range? It's hard to know if a marker is being used or not?

Feature Requests / Control marker positions in Perspective workspace.
« on: July 24, 2012, 04:05:23 PM »
From doing various tests on 70 camera scenes and having some cameras not always align, I wonder if it might be possible to augment marker placement in 2d photos by also allowing positional placement and tweaking in 3d perspective workspace to help refine average overall positions on all photos, instead of having to go in to each photo to tweak position of each marker?

So place positions first in 2d photographs, then go into perspective and refine positions in 3d to then affect the placement in 2d photos.

Feature Requests / Agisoft, Remembering Folder Paths
« on: July 01, 2012, 06:35:21 PM »
A silly feature request but a time saver in production.

The ability to allow Agisoft to remember a folder path in any form of user interaction, from import, export, save or load dialogue from a previous session.

As well as, if I load in a recent scene file when opening Agisoft from the "File menu, recent files" list at bottom of pain. Any work I do, if I then go to export texture, save file as, or export, it will automatically remember or know the location from the load from the recent file list location.

Just a simple work flow idea. I hope it makes sense.

Feature Requests / Workflow "Add Folder" order.
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:00:24 PM »
When importing folders, say for FACS capture or Body Captures. If your folder have suffix like _001, _002, _003, _004 in order. When you Import from their master folder Agisoft orders from top to bottom in the Workspace panel backwards. _004, _003, _002, _001 Not ideal.

The batch folder import script I used to have, ordered it correctly.

Perhaps a ticker option on the Workspace panel to re-order < > top to bottom, or bottom to top might be useful? or at least order downwards using numeric values in suffix in order?

Feature Requests / Batch OBJ import.
« on: July 01, 2012, 01:51:21 PM »
Just an idea to be able to import obj files in Batch, in case you altered models outside of Agisoft, re-uvmapped or cleaned and want to texture bake. Would be ideal to import from master folder, with subfolders matching .psz chunk names, similar to folder import. So the software will be looking for matching chunk folder names and re-import matching .obj's into matching chunks

I have had various scripts doing this, thanks to Alexey but with each new build, versions of the script have to be re-written as they aren't always compatible with the new software buikd. Which can be tricky when needed during a project.

General / Intel's 50-core x86 co-processor family 'Xeon Phi,'

I'm not sure if this has been posted but will Agisoft Photoscan be compatible with this type of Hardware? could it be of any benefit?

Feature Requests / Automatic Masking.
« on: April 25, 2012, 04:57:26 PM »
I have already spoken to Alexey about this idea. But wanted to get it out there for others to ponder.

Automasking. A technique of using a set of images empty and a set with your subject in, full. If you think about it you can Mask between the 2 automatically as a difference. With or without.

I hope we can see something like this introduced into Agisoft. Alexey seems interested in it but wonder what others would think of how it could be introduced into the pipeline? perhaps as a tick box and input line field to point to the sessions empty set of images folder to process with at Align or Build stage? This would be ideal for video sequences and head or body captures, when using allot of images.

The idea of then being able to apply this in batch on dozens of images during Align or Geometry build, without the need to mask by hand or use a Chroma Key background with colour spill is an appealing one! at the moment my captures suffer allot with background objects (blobs) getting introduced in the final build model if not masked.

You can of course do Difference Matte in Aftereffects or Difference filter in Photoshop by hand but the results are a little tricky to get right but the idea is sound and it is rather time consuming!

If implemented it would then just be a matter of common practice to always take an empty set of images at the start of a capture session  :)

Interested in a discussion.

Feature Requests / Multi Image Selection by Viewport
« on: April 17, 2012, 03:59:38 PM »
I was wondering if it might be possible to have interactive (multi) image selection via the viewport using selection tools?

It would make it easier to pin point single and groups of images/cameras by their alignment and position in the world, rather than sifting through the 2d image layout going through names of cameras.

Just an idea to prove the already incredible tool set.

Thanks, Lee

Bug Reports / Build Quality inconsistencies across PC's
« on: March 05, 2012, 07:46:02 PM »
I have noticed an odd bug. Using 3 PC's I have tested using the latest build of Agisoft Pro.

PC01, PC02 and PC03.

The 5 Image/Camera file was Aligned on PC01 using the below settings.

On PC02 and PC03 (different CPU, RAM and GPU configurations) I found different build qualities. Some odd stair stepping effects, not present on the PC01 build.

-----------------------------> -----------------------------> -----------------------------> ----------------------------->

PC01

PC02

PC03

Each build is different. Is there a reason for this? can CPU or GPU differences affect the build quality?

If you would like a file to test, I can upload.

I just wanted to mention that it seems the Region/Bounding Box that can be assigned and positioned in Agisoft Photoscan only seems to work on Sharp Build Geometry and not Smooth Build Geometry.

On a 40x 18MP scene Build, I have noticed a 2 hour Build time with Smooth and a 1 hour Build time with Sharp.

Whether this is because the Region/Bounding Box is being taken into account? or if it is because no extra Geometry fill has to take place I am not sure.

Alexey do you know why Region/Bounding Box is ignored on Smooth?

Feature Requests / Folder Import, Autoname Chunk as Folder + Batch Export
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:51:37 PM »
Hi Alexey,

My last suggestion, that's a promise.

I recently did some work on a project for a big client and we had a huge FACS Face Capture list to go through. Each folder was correctly named to match the expression.

So, I'm proposing a way to import images by single selection and multiple selection on folders into Agisoft via Add Photos, not just by selecting images. This would allow the user the ability to import a folder with it's images inside and the folders name will auto name the Chunk to match the folder name. As well as being able to do multiple Folder/Chunk import. With each Chunk matching the folder name.

Then after Batch Align and Build, we have Batch Export, so that Agisoft looks for the folders import location and can export and rename there as .obj or what ever, as well as maybe a copy of a single .psz there also.

Currently I have to do this one by one..

..importing, naming each chunk, batch process, then export one by one. A very lengthy procedure when you have dozens and dozens of captures to get through.

Just an idea  :)

Best,
Lee

Feature Requests / Cull/Cut by Low-Density tool.
« on: February 25, 2012, 01:09:27 AM »
Hi Alexey,

I’ve been trying to think of an elegant way to easily solve masking and cutting with the more volumetric type captures.

It dawned on me looking at some High and Ultra builds today, maybe there is a solution inside Agisoft before export and after build.

Notice how dense the “important” areas are and how sparse the useless “garbage” areas are. The important areas are so well formed it seems like it would be an ideal way to cull the garbage data based on the low-density of the mesh? what do you think? does that sound like a feasible thing to implement?

This would make aligning and handling 360 data so much easier, by having to hand very quick culling tools.

Interested to hear your thoughts on yet another topic : )
