General / Re: Noise removal..

Hi Merry, I don't think this is a High, Medium or Ultra settings issue. You just need more input images. For example a friend of mine used a Canon 5DMKII (full frame) and he took 30 images (21MP) from 30 Angels front on to a subjects face. The Build took many hours but the results are incredible, you can see down to the pore level with very minimal noise. ISO around 100-200.

If you then process the same batch of images but cull them down to 9 from 30, the results are still good but include far more noise and less fine pore level detail. The full frame really helps allot, especially if the images are super sharp with minimal DOF.

Feature Requests / Re: texture requests and some other questions..

Some very good points Merry, I have to also agree about the texturing side of things, when using Multiple Cameras. As for organic captures we need something a bit more robust. Less seams, less random artifacts and Ghosting. Perhaps with User Selected multiple Viewpoint Camera Projections and blending? with more clean texture plates rather than scrambled atlas?

I also agree about the naming conventions and swapping out images to re-texture with, it would be better to be able to point the Image sets to a new folder and have control over their location pointing? and be able to adjust to search for different prefixes? or suffixes? like:

Build set:
GI00001.jpg, GI00002.jpg

then re-point to

Texture set:
L100001.jpg, L100002.jpg etc

Alexey thank you very much for the reply, I will certainly try that out. A most useful workflow.  :)

EDIT* Works a treat! thanks!

Notice the stair step effect and banding in the Normal Map?

Hi Agisoft users, I'm new here. Just been using Agisoft Photoscan over the last few days, I've got some really interesting results using a minimal amount of input images but I am also getting some weird stair step effects (see attached) is there a reason for this?

As an example, I'm processing 2 images as Stereo Pairs, perhaps more images are required to overcome this stepping effect? the effect seems to appear in the Normal Map that can be generated, not so much in the depth map. It kind of resembles the issues you can get with displacement map when using 8bit images instead of 32bit?

I used Arbitrary, High and Smooth as Geometry settings.

Any helps or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Incredible software  :)

Feature Requests / After Align Photos, Image swapping?
« on: October 31, 2011, 07:34:43 PM »
I'm new here and to using Agisoft PhotoScan (incredible software)  :)

I was wondering, when using a fixed Camera Rig, after loading the images into Agisoft and doing Align Photos would it be possible to be able to swap in and out images keeping that alignment position? perhaps by right clicking on the Blue Camera position Square in the viewport?

This would be very handy for a Camera Rig that is fixed and never moves but the subject might do, so new sets can be processed using the same Camera positions. Would this work with Agisoft?

I have noticed that if I load image sets taken with the same cameras in the same position in Real Life, I run Align Photos and do Build Geometry and sometimes the size of the exported .obj will differ from a previous build from another set of photos. Even though those Photos were taken from the same position on the same rig?

I hope my request makes sense.
