Problems with masks
« on: March 01, 2013, 02:59:08 PM »
I?m doing a first try with masks, for a 4 picture dataset. I included a mask for the same simple object in all the photos with the intelligent scisors. I add the selection for all of them. In all pictures the mask appears shaded. I align the photos, but I get the reconstruction of the whole scene, not only of the mask area.

Could you help me with the problem? I would like to use the masks in more demanding situations.

Thank you!

Carlos

The masked areas (with grey shading) are NOT used in the 3D reconstruction and texturing. You should mask all those areas which you don't want and keep everything you want unmasked (not shaded).

That makes sense! All perfect! I was doing it all the way around :-[

Thanks a lot!

Btw, what happens to the masked zones? In other words what appears instead of masked areas in mosaic or 3D?

No 3D model is created for the masked areas (as long as the "contrain features by mask" box in the "align photos" dialoge is checked), and the masked areas are ignored in creating the texture atlas. I have, however, recently observed that points were detected and matched between images even for masked areas, but they are labeled as "invalid". So I don't know exactly how this is handled behind the scenes.
