Dense Cloud Quality
« on: February 28, 2019, 02:34:13 AM »
Hello,

When I use these settings;

PhotoScan.UltraQuality
PhotoScan.HighQuality
PhotoScan.MediumQuality
PhotoScan.LowQuality
PhotoScan.LowestQuality

My understanding is the source image is used at original size (UltraQuality), down to reduced sizes dependent on setting used.

Is this process for the Dense Cloud production only?

Does the original high res image get used to produce the DEM and Ortho, or is it the reduced quality image used?

Regards
Ben

On High, the images are used at original size. On Ultra, they are interpolated to 2x size.

On High, the images are used at original size. On Ultra, they are interpolated to 2x size.
This is valid for alignment accuracy - High for image originals and Highest for upscaled images. Whereas for the depth maps quality the information in the original post is correct.

Ben,
The resolution of DEM will depend on the quality of the dense cloud generated from the depth maps (if you are using it as a source). The resolution of orthomosaic can be defined in the Build Orthomosaic dialog and does not depend on the dense cloud quality of DEM resolution.

 -Photo Resolution Scaling:  Alignment Quality-
Highest:        2:1
High:               1:1
Medium:       1:2
Low:                1:4
Lowest:         1:8

-Photo Resolution Scaling:  Dense Cloud Quality-
Ultra High:      1:1
High:                   1:2
Medium:           1:4
Low:                    1:8
Lowest:             1:16

Example: If Ultra high produces 100 million points, Medium quality will then create 25 million points.
If your project GSD is 2 cm/pixel, your maximum DEM resolution at Ultra high will be 2 cm/pixel. At Medium it will be 8 cm/pixel.
