KMZ does not load at right coordinates in GE
« on: February 25, 2019, 11:01:09 AM »
Hi all,

I've been using Photoscan to make a nice model out of an old house.
As I was not using any GCP at that time, I used Google Earth to make some references. (cf file 1)

In Photoscan I set the coordinate system to WGS 84 and I reported the coordinates. I skipped the altitude that seemed really weird.

The model is nice and done (cf file 2) and when I wanted to export it in GE, I used the KMZ format.
But it does not load at the right place and it's way above the ground (cf file 3).

Did I do something wrong ?
Any idea ?

Thank you for your help !
Cheers

Hello nicokalo,

Are you sure that point 2 has Longitude 2.727300 and point 7 has Longitude 2.741400? I believe that 0.02 degrees (about 1') is a few kilometers.

Thank you Alexey for your reply.

Well I don't know... I reported the coordinates from GE as you can see on the joined files.

Maybe I made a mistake in the conversion from the GE GPS writing and the Photoscan's one.

The values on your screenshots are in degrees, minutes, seconds formats, not in decimals expected by Metashape.

Degrees_decimals = Degrees + Minutes / 60 + Seconds / 3600.

Alternatively switch to "decimal degrees" option in Show Lat/Long section of 3D view dialog in Google Earth in order to skip the manual values conversion.

Make sure you change the altitude in Google Earth Pro set to "clamped to ground" , so the placemark, polygon can show on the surface.
