Photogrammetry of ancient log
« on: March 19, 2019, 12:52:19 PM »
Hi,

I've been trying to create a 3D model of several bits of an ancient log. I'm taking around 200 - 250 photographs, turning the log over to get both sides and then masking out the log in each image, for the smaller bits I am able to use a light box. I have tried different cameras but tend to stick with a Nikon D60, I've attached a screenshot of the settings I tend to use along with one of the photographs. I am getting virtually no alignment or only alignment of one part of the log, and when I do eventually get a 3D model the quality is very poor. I try to mask out any blurry bits on each photograph but still not getting much luck. Any hints or tips or info on what I may be doing wrong would be much appreciated  :)

Hello archaeovark,

If you are using fixed camera mount, try to lower the ISO as much as possible and use F/stop values about f/8 - f/11.
