size of the 3d model
« on: April 12, 2019, 12:19:36 PM »

after many tests, starting from a dense cloud generated at medium quality I managed to get my model.
When I set it in lumion 3d (collada-obj or 3ds) it is in a very small scale, how can I set the scale factor in the export or how can I find out in which scale it is exported?

Hello Fabio,

You need to scale the model using either scale bar instances, or to reference using the coordinates of camera locations and/or markers placed in scene.

Alternatively (if you do not mind not very accurate scaling), you can use Scale Object instrument located on the toolbar to perform the scaling "by eye". Enabling the Show Grid option in the Model Menu -> Show/Hide items may be helpful for such purposes.

My approaches
1. Use scale rules and therefore create a scale model in MetaShape. See attached.
2. Export as is, scale in external  software to a known/measured dimension.
3. Export as is, scale to unit cube bounding box and apply real scale in viewing software.
I use meshlab for 2 and 3.
