cpu vs gpu
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:52:54 PM »
Is it possible to get a better explanation of the cpu-gpu option in photoscan? I run a INTEL Core i7 720QM with 8 cores @1.6GHz and a GeForce GTX 260M with 14 cores @1375MHz. I can't figure out what combination is the most efficient. Any tips?

Hello, Kjellis85,

We would recommend one of the following configurations:
1. Active CPU cores = 6, GeForce GTX 260M = enabled
2. Active CPU cores = 8, GeForce GTX 260M = disabled

Unfortunately, we can't say for sure which configuration will be faster, as we haven't tested your mobile GPU model yet.

Please also note, that OpenCL acceleration is applicable to the "Build Geometry" step only. All other processing stages are currently executed on the CPU.

Thank you, I will test that configuration soon and see if it is faster than only CPU.
