Ultra high normal map on lower res model
« on: March 24, 2013, 06:21:34 AM »
My main method for making realistic use of the millions of polygons generated in Photoscan is making a medium ish quality model and combine different normal details with ultra high or high quality subsections of my chunks.  Some of my chunks are hundreds of photos so it can be cumbersome to make use of all of them for their details.  Since build depth allows me to calculate the normals on ultra high without crashing from RAM overload I can make use of them in other ways like manually projecting/painting the normals from the generated camera's angles.

Would it be possible to have normal generation similar to texture generation if you precalculate the depth of the images used?

Thank you!

Im asking this too, and not the first time.... This could improve our models details significantly...

+10 from me....

This could also really help making awesome(er?) normals for sets/objects that are recreated manually with basic primitives.  I'm excited if this happens.

well if we do get NM output, then I see no reason why not this...? same vein.. NM are ok, but you just can't beat a disp map IMHO... 8)

Generating a high Normal/Depth map on low geo
« Reply #7 on: September 11, 2013, 07:50:40 PM »
It seems for contiguous contours generating a model on low gives fantastic results.  Decimate that down and generate a high or ultra quality model to use with xNormal to create a nice normal map for the lower res model.

Couldn't this be done as a texture average/projection similar to the way you generate the color textures?  If this isn't a possibility in your mind then could we have the option to mass export the undistorted version of all of the depth maps and normals in a project?  Along with that we would obviously need the separate "build depth" option back.  Then I could just manually project the normal maps I want to use.

Thoughts?

sorry for digging out this 7 years old topic.

but is it now in the pro version possible to generate normal/depth maps from highpoly scan to use it on dezimated meshes?

Would be awesome and I cant find any more info here in the forum.

thanks,
ben

Hello Ben,

Both Standard and Professional editions support Occlusion and Normal texture maps generation. For Normal map generation it is required to specify a source model (within the same chunk), for example, high poly model can be used as a source for a low poly model texturing.
