Decoding for RAW/.CR2 images
« on: January 31, 2020, 12:35:06 PM »
When opening a set of photos in RAW format (Canon file type .CR2) using Photoscan 1.2.6, the color decoding is quite good and if the photo was taken with the right settings and in good light conditions there's no need to tune anything before start to process.

With Metashape 1.5 - using the same photos - they are overexposed and I can't find a way to tune them right inside Metashape. Convert them using another software will make the workflow longer.

Anyone with the same problem? Suggested solutions?

Agisoft, can the RAW decoding be reverted to the previous condition? Certainly more people are dealing with the same issue.

Hello jmgc,

CR2 is a proprietary format and may have certain variations depending on the camera used. If you are observing the problems with the visual representation when the images are opened in Metashape, please send the examples from the corresponding cameras to support@agisoft.com, so that we could study them and adjust, if possible, the RAW data import.

In general case, however, it is recommended to process RAW images to TIFF, for example.

Hi Alexey,

I'm sending the images. They were always captured using the same camera model (Canon S110).
The test you should perform to identify the difference is opening the .CR2 image using the v1.2.6 and v1.5 or above.

Thanks.

Please see the attached image.
Here's a clear example.
Two orthomosaics obtained using v1.2.6 (left) and v1.5 (right), using the same .CR2 RAW images.

Hello jmgc,

We'll make some adjustment for the CR2 interpretation in the next version update.

Adjustments were made and the issue is solved.
Please see attachment with RAW .CR2 decoding comparison, using a pre-release version of Metahshape 1.6.2, kindly provided by Alexey.
