RAM recommendation for Metashape 1.6
« on: February 10, 2020, 11:55:34 AM »
Hi guys,
now that the Metashape is out-of-core how much RAM is recommended?
32GB DDR4 RAM is enough for projects up to 2K (20mpx) photos to process arbitary 3d model from depth maps in High quality?
I am looking for a new pc and don't know if by adding 64GB RAM makes sense.
Thanks in advance.

Hello gto234,

The mesh generation would not require more than 16 GB RAM. However, to be on a safe side for other processing stages, I would suggest to have 32 GB.

Hey, I asked this question a while back but did not get an answer.

Are there any plans for optimizing memory usage for point cloud generation? Or is this workflow being phased out?

Hello wojtek,

We have in plans the optimization of the dense cloud memory utilization. Currently it mainly depend on the overlap ratio (number of neighbors used) - so if the overlap is excessive, the RAM comsupmtion will be quite high, even with the fine-level task subdivision.
