chunks alignment problem
« on: April 26, 2013, 12:33:58 AM »
hey guys,

This is my first post here.
I've been doing some tests with photogrammetry in the past few weeks.
I am trying to recreate a human head close up which was shot with two cameras simultaneously from different angles. I managed to align the face in sections... I have a chunk with left part of the face aligned, another chunk with right side and a chunk with the back of the head.
My question is once I have these chunks how do I combine them into the final alignment?
I tried the aligned chunks  function (with different setup variations) but nothing happened.

just to add: I am aware that a two camera rig is not ideal, and I need a multiple camera setup.
I just want to get some kind of a result before investing in more cameras.

Why don't you try to align all images in one chunk?

My first attempt was to align in one chunk, but then some images (most of them from the back of the head) where not aligning at all.
Is there any efficient way to make sure the back of the head aligns with the front, any tricks like putting some kind of markers on the head.

btw: the background is constant so it has to be masked and cant help the alignment.

dragonflysh,

if you can't get image alignment all around your object, you may not have sufficient overlap between images. A good start would be a spacing of approx. 15°, i.e. 24 images for a full circle. In addition, hair can be quite tricky for image alignment because it is often shiny and has a lot of self-similarity, both of which can mess up the alignment.
