Align chunks crash
« on: September 26, 2020, 04:50:53 PM »
The align chunks function is crashing with the following errors (Both MS 1.5.5 and Metashape 1.6.4 - see image labels for version).

Hello Renato,

Are you observing similar problem during regular image matching procedure (Align Photos operation)?

Can you provide complete console pane output related to the failed operation and specify the OS version used, GPU model and GPU driver version installed?

Hi Alexey

The problem is only related with the Chunk Alignment. Everything else is working just fine.
The Machine is a MacPro 2013 with two external Nvidia 1080 GTX Ti, using High Sierra OS and with the latest Nvidia drivers.
I'm out for fieldwork but later I'll sent you the console output.
Cheers

Hello Renato,

can you please then provide the full processing log from the Console pane related to the failed chunk alignment operation?

Also please specify the total number of images in all the chunks being aligned.

Hi Alexey

Find the console output attached. The reference chunk has 93 cameras and the one to be aligned has 122 cameras.
Cheers

PS: Updated to the newest 1.6.5 version (also fails). The only solution thatworks is to skip cuda. However the alignment process is a lot slower

Hello Renato,

Thank you for sending the logs. We will check that, for now it seems that the issue is related to the fact that the point based chunk alignment doesn't yet support fine level task subdivision.

Hi Alexey

Thank you so much for reply. Probably that is the case but, as I told you, the trouble only happens with the CUDA GPU's enabled. The trick I'm using is to disable them for this particular step, working only with the old AMD's included in this machine, using only Open CL. It's a lot slower but it works. Of course, if the crash reasons are solved it will be a lot better  :)
Best Regards

Hello Renato,

Maybe the data sent to the GPU is too large without fine level subdivision and driver cannot handle it properly.

You can try to switch from CUDA to OpenCL using main/gpu_enable_cuda tweak set to False and re-starting Metashape.
