GPU tweak
« on: September 29, 2020, 09:27:27 PM »
I am using an iMac with a AMD Radeon Pro 580 with 8 GB. When creating some complex meshes I get the console message

device AMD Radeon Pro 580 Compute Engine ignored because it has 2048 MB limit on allocations, but 2580 MB allocation required

Is there a tweak that can be set to allow more memory to be allocated or is it just a limitation of the system?

Thanks for any advice

Tom

Hello Tom,

Can you please provide the complete log from the Console pane related to the processing operation and specify version of Metashape and Mac OS X used?

I am also having the same problem when building DepthMap.
I would like to know if there is a solution.

I have been noticing that most CUDA errors are related with differences in Hardware that cannot be tweaked. In my case I have two GPU's Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. One is the factory Nvidia and the other one is a MSI modified one with a slight overclocking. While processing, this latest one is not stable and It's the culprit of the "famous" CUDA errors. The GPU works great with any other package that supports multiple external GPU's such as Blender or several video editing apps. It would be great if we could tweak things such as maximum memory to be used by a certain GPU, as suggested or the relative load in percentage. In my case I'm using a Macintosh and any modification in the hardware with MSI Afterburner app is out of question.

Hello yawzaw,

Can you please check, if the problem is no longer observed in the version 1.7.0 pre-release (build 11701):
