Question about Terms of service of the satelite background map
« on: December 23, 2020, 02:23:05 AM »
Hello

I was wondering if there is any copyrights that prevents me from using the background map satelite view in metashape for texturing 3D-modelles.  As far as I can find there is no terms of service visible. Does this mean that this map is free to use for projects? I'm planning to use satelite imagery as textures for background environment for visualizations where precision isnt a vital case. (a small google earth style of 3d-map limited to a certain area)

Hello 3DMake,

Currently Metashape uses Mapbox Satellite imagery for the basemap view. We will check once again that all attributions are properly displayed in Metashape – thank you for pointing this out.

We don’t have any plans to implement 3D model texturing from satellite base map at the moment. If you are considering to implement something similar on your own, we would recommend to check Mapbox license terms for permitted usages.
Best regards,
