Mesh has crossing triangles
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:44:54 PM »
Hi,

I have been using Metashape to create surfaces and Geotiffs of drone surveys. I'm having an issue where the 3D models I export contain crossing triangles. These crossing triangles make Boolean operations impossible make he surfaces useless for me. I've tried decimating, refining and smoothing the mesh as well as various settings for depth filtering and interpolation when creating dense point clouds and mesh. Is there a way to create 3D models that do not have crossing triangles?

Thanks

Hello mbrett,

Which mesh reconstruction method you are using? And whether using Fix Topology button allows to fix the issue (by removing bad polygons) if pressed in Tools Menu -> Mesh -> View Mesh Statistics dialog?

Thanks for the response,
I'm reconstructing the mesh in Maptek Vulcan. I've tried exporting the model using both of the DXF formats both have the same issue. Fix topology removes some of the crossing triangles but not all of them
