Weird distorted mesh from point cloud
« on: March 01, 2021, 07:06:12 PM »
Hi,

I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if this topic is pretty basic.
Usually when importing point clouds captured by laserscanning and computing meshes using the standard workflow, everything is just fine. Now I imported a point cloud captured with a hyperspectral scanner - x, y, z, RGB (where RGB is allready calculated from the spectral image and is not photorealistic colours). When calculating the mesh, things go totaly wrong and there is all sorts of radial triangles and weired shapes (see attached images).
What went possible wrong?

cheers

mat

Hi Mat,

Did you also try building Mesh with Interpolation setting: Enabled (default)?
The weird shapes that you get could be because of the Extrapolation used.

Best,
Alex

Hello Mat,

I can suggest to use the latest Metashape Pro version (1.7.1) and on point cloud import select the correct coordinate system, that corresponds to the point cloud being imported (could be WGS84 or some UTM projection).

In case the problem persist, please send the point cloud file that you are trying to import and have problems with to support@agisoft.com.

sorry for the late reply - yes, indeed, it was the coordinate system or more precisely the number of digits. The point cloud was in a weired mine grid with lots of digits. I applied a coordinate shift and thereby reduced the number of digits. Then everything worked fine.
Thanks for your help...
