Problem with position of region / bounding box
« on: May 05, 2021, 06:44:59 PM »
After aligning my photos, I ended up with some points far outside the bounding box / region. I deleted them and now my tie points look ok. Unfortunately, my bounding box appears far away and I have to zoom in all the way until I'm able to see my points (see attached photo).

I only have 1 chunk and it's set to Local Coordinates.

How can I move that bounding box to 0,0,0 and have it appear in normal size?

Hello otherguy,

Does it help to call Reset Region command from the Model menu (or from the toolbar)?

Thanks for your reply Alexey.

No, I tried that first.

When I zoom in, the region is correct. It seems it's just positioned incorrectly

I ended up removing the images that caused the outliers and just ran alignment again. Then, hitting "Reset Region" immediately worked.

Thanks for your help!

Hello otherguy,

The default viewpoint in the Model view (applied when Reset View command is called) is based on the distribution of the aligned cameras, so if there were some misaligned cameras which appear to be far from the actual alignment, it could cause the display problem.

That makes sense. I just found no simple way to see and delete those misaligned cameras.

All good now :)

Hello otherguy,

If you are working with Metashape Professional you can switch Reference pane to estimated values tab and sort by X, Y and Z columns to check, if there are any outliers with too large absolute values on top and at the bottom of the list, compared to other cameras.

Also you can check, if there are any invalid Source values for some cameras, which are too different from the location of the actual alignment.
