I'm wondering what would be the best way to scan a symmetric object like a boat, car, chair etc. Would it be sufficient to scan half of the object? Or will scanning the whole object make it more accurate? Back in the days, 360 degree panorama software would give quite different results when providing it with a full 360 degrees or just a part of that. The overlap of the first and last image would improve the solution significantly, giving a lot less distortion.

Question is, will the accuracy of a Photoscan decrease with large objects over long distances? And will this accuracy be regained when the circle is round and the starting photos can be matched to the last in the circle?

Have fun,

Wybren

If you want to create a model of the whole object, you'll have to take pictures of the whole object, not just of one half (of course, you could create a half object, mirror the model and combine model and mirrored model...).

Regarding your other question: yes, it is advisable to capture a full circle around an object as this will often greatly improve model quality.
