Need a solution to correct orthophotos issues
« on: October 22, 2021, 08:39:19 PM »
I do have a question that I need help from you all using old aerial photos .

When I work on 18 of cameras and work through the workflow. I export it to orthomosaic and it came out fine and all clear BUT there is one problem is

When I exported 18 of them to orthophotos, I found some a few of them came out holes...

The Problem is that I have a several of the original images had some sort of ink spilled into on some of the images or might be somebody that had accidently touch it ...

I have put together  to show you  3 screenshots here in my pdf

Screenshot has the original photo is what I got from my agency. It has several of similiar like this .. probably at least 5 of them or more..

Screenshot is what I build 18 of cameras into one.

Screenshot 3. is what I export 18 of them into orthophotos each one.

Is there a solution to it to fix the orthophotos similar to the one you see screenshot # 2 ?

I would like to get feedback from you about this .

I am not sure if I understand all what you want, but
you can try different blending modes OR retouch original scanned photos in photoshop OR create orthophoto from point cloud, where you can delete points with black color.

Thanks Bzuco,

The black  you see is actually either an ink spilled on or it might have been thumb touch on it. I have them a few of them that makes difficult to use the markers on those area.  What I am surprise is that when I build the orthomosaic the black areas on that orthomosaic wasn't on it.

One thought I would do is to copy this orthomosaic and cut them where the black spots are located and paste on some of the the orthophotos  I exported to?

Hello PROBERT1968,

You can manually apply masks to the parts of each image that shouldn't be included to the orthorectification and orthomosaic blending operations. After all the unwanted areas on the original images are masked you should re-build the orthomosaic.

See an example of mask applied to the scanned historic aerial image attached:

Alexey,

That is what I do every photos I worked on that needs to be left out.

I had to use the assign the image for each holes I found and I am having a hard time to understand how to use this Assign Images and in it has a Exclude selected images.

Here is the attachment

Here is my step by step .

1. Use polygon in the Ortho View and draw a polygon around a small bad area
2. click on the polygon ( to get the points turn on) and then right click on it
3. Hit the Assign Images
4. Enable Allow Multiple selection
5. Exclude selected images
6. go through the rank images
7. If bad, then check on that image or images.
8. When done, hit the Ok button.

Am I doing the right thing .   If not could you please give me more details.

Would that replace the orthophotos in the Assign Images on based rank ?

Hello PROBERT1968,

After applying all the patches via Assign Images dialog you need to use Update Orthomosaic button on the Toolbar of the Ortho view mode to apply all the changes.

"Exclude selected" means that such selected images will not be used for the orthomosaic blending in the drawn patch, unless they are the only images available for the certain area.
