GIS Sputnik - PhotoScan Compatible 3D Geobrowser
« on: August 26, 2013, 02:22:32 PM »
Update New demo version is available for download: Sputnik 1.1.31398. See page for details. This demo includes new 30 day key to extend trial period.

GeoScan team working in close collaboration with Agisoft is happy to announce GIS Sputnik. Sputnik is virtual 3D geobrowser. It supports various data formats with the main focus on KML. Sputnik allows to import orthophoto and 3D models generated in PhotoScan Pro and perform some measurements.

Demo version is currently available for all PhotoScan users. Choose installation package you need at product page. Much like to PhotoScan we are planning to release two versions — Lite and Pro.
Sputnik Lite is mainly intended for data visualization. Sputnik Pro offers its' users a set of data processing tools. Right now we're working on implementation of easy-to-use procedure of volume measurement.

Your comments, bug reports and feature requests are always welcome.

Hi, I'm programmer from GeoScan. Sputnik was originally developed as viewer for UAV survey results designed with PhotoScan compatibility in mind.
Compared to Google Earth Sputnik is able to load custom terrain/surface model to refine basic SRTM coverage.

Current features:
* KML viewer (including our DEM extension)
* WMS (with offline mode)
* ruler tool

Planned features:
* handy KML editor
* advanced measure tools like area and volume
* high resolution image export and printing

Our medium-term goal is real time rendering of urban 3D models.

Our intention is to make useful tool for PhotoScan users. Feature requests are welcome.  Please write here or e-mail to sputnik@geoscan.aero.

We are going to post news about Sputnik development here.

Hi @drykovanov

I will soon invest in a workstation to use with Agisoft and most likely the GIS Sputnik.

Can you please provide any recommendations on what Graphics cards to use (and what to avoid) to support high 3D rendering performance in the Sputnik software?
Does Sputnik support stereoscopic hardware based viewing, e.g. using NVidia 3D goggles?

(Earlier I learned that the built in Agisoft 3D stereoscopic texture viewing feature with hardware acceleration is only available for "quadro" cards...  :o)

Thanks / Tom

Hello, Tom. If you are planning to install Agisoft PhotoScan and GIS Sputnik on the same workstation, then you should focus on Agisoft PhotoScan system requirements.

For Sputnik any modern video card will suite, but at present GIS Sputnik is not completely tested on NVidia cards.

Support for quad buffered stereo with NVIDIA Quadro cards will be implemented soon.

Two new tools have been implemented in the last Sputnik demo version:
  • Volume measurement tool automates measurements of changing surface features. It allows to calculate both positive and negative deviation of one digital surface model in comparison with another within selected area.
  • Differential ruler makes it possible to measure vertical and horizontal components of a distance between two points. It allows to measure quickly relative height of the points located on DEM (either generated with PhotoScan or default SRTM elevation model).

Procedure for volume difference measurement is explained in separate tutorial.

hello guys,
is it possible to visualize a 3D model as a dense point cloud at your system?
Now it is mesh only whereas a point cloud (from visual point of view) looks much better and btw also gives an opportunity to measure heights

Hello, George

Currently Sputnik doesn't support point clouds. We can include this feature in our TODO list. Which point cloud formats do you need - LAS, TXT?
In current Sputnik version you can measure heights with corner ruler tool.

Actually LAS format seems to be a light weight solution and more common.
When it comes to measurements at Point cloud it has much in common with Elevation profile in Google Earth. Well you might have seen it also in ArcMap (ESRI). Very-very useful thing.

Hi,

i am an surveyor from Namibia, our company does small to medium uav based photo projects, and use agisoft photoscan for all our modeling needs. Sputnik looks very interesting, and i would like to know if it is available to download the demo in Namibia so i can try it.

Hi, Frederik

Please use the following link to download Sputnik Pro:
https://files.geoscan.aero/public/Sputnik_demo/Sputnik_1.1.31398_x64.exe
It should install 30 day trial license together with Sputnik. Please feel free to send your questions to d.rykovanov@geoscan.aero

hi
yes las data would be usefull
and is there any reason why there is no suport for geotiff files
i would use some to place my models on which are better then the landsat and bing stuff and blend better withe the modell

HEllo, I have installed and tried the software with date exported from agisoft, as explained in the manual. Unfortunately nothing appears. The program focuses on the area where the data should be visible, but there is nothing to see.

What am I doing wrong?

Best regards

Hi, Patribu

What type of data are you trying to open in Sputnik?
Maybe your 3d model is under the surface. In such case you can export DEM in KMZ format and also open in Sputnik.

If it doesn't help please send us examples of your data so we can find out what is the problem. See details in PM.
